Hi pals, I’m writing a wee piece atm about the widespread mythicism and falsehoods surrounding Scottish culture + identity (particularly the over romanticisation of the highlands)...has anyone got any personal anecdotes? E.g. I was once asked by a tourist why I’m not ginger 🥴
This is such a broad ask, early stages so don’t know how better to word it! But basically stuff like being asked “do the highlands have WiFi”/people generally acting like we genuinely exist in some kinda outlander fantasy lol. It might take a few weeks cause I have a lot on atm
Ooooooh here’s another one: I put up some pictures of Uist last September and some random guy, thinking I was from uist (I wish lol), commented “beautiful place but how do you survive without chocolate?”. Kicking myself for deleting it now lol.
Pal, if you read this, I can confirm that there is a wide variety of confectionary available in Daliburgh co-op. Hope this helps.
Also thinking about the time I was drinking with some pals who are international students...I don’t remember much of that night but I do remember someone saying “she’s Scottish - she can handle her drink!”...I then proceeded to whitey four times 😌
And I always seem to get asked about whisky? Like what ones are the best/what’s my favourite...babe I literally don’t know. I can vouch for md though.
