everytime award season comes up, im reminded of a conversation i had with an irl friend of mine who's a multistan...she once told me "i don't understand why you guys (army) have to try to win all the awards. i mean, you won, you're grp is already the most popular-
-all you're doing is blocking the other hardworking grps who have music just as good as bts from getting a chance to be noticed"
im not going to lie, this pissed me off, but i didn't want to dismiss what she was feeling, that would make me a bad friend...so i told her our side
i said "let me ask you something? do you believe that bts got where they are smoothly without obstacles?", she said "no, but you're fandom is so big, no one can compete against you when you guys want to win"...so i replied, "don't you realize we were in the same situation too?"-
"before we became this immense intimidating fandom, we were once a very small and frail grp that was considered pushovers because we didn't have enough fans to fight back"..."the way you're feeling now? we felt it for 4+ yrs, and sometimes we still feel it"
"for so long we were blocked from being able to get the boys the recognition and awards we believed they deserved, and at one point, we even thought that 2015 was their peak, that we couldn't get any higher than that. but despite thinking that way, it didn't stop us from pushing"
"whatever barriers we met, we pushed, and pushed and pushed, we didn't back down and say that it's not fair, that other fans should stop supporting their grps in order for bts to get recognition too"..."we never thought that way...our mindset was, if we didn't win an award-"
"-then we didn't try hard enough to get it. we didn't vote enough, we didn't stream enough, we didn't promote enough"..."that's how we built our current fandom. utilizing the talents of every fan in order to pay back to the boys for the gifts of music they gave us"
"we got our shit together and realized that what we were doing was not enough. we became more organized. bridged the international side with the korean side in order to strengthen our numbers. instead of crying that we didn't get a chance, we worked and gave ourselves the chance"
"and there's no way in hell, we're going to stop just because, you guys believe your artists deserve a chance too" and she said "that's really mean and selfish of you guys, haven't bts earned enough", and I said "no, as a matter of fact they have not earned enough, you think-
"-that it's selfish for a fan to only care about and focus on the artist they listen to? an artist's worth and validation is dependent on their fans. we stream because we love their music and we believe they're worth every and any award they're nominated for. you telling us to-"
"-stop and back down, is like telling us to believe that bts is worthless and doesn't deserve to win their awards"..."just like how we pushed past our limits and comfort zones and beat the odds, any other fandom can too for their fav"
"but you won't reach this level we're at if you ask for your chances rather than fighting for them, if you ask for recognition rather than proving you deserve it... y'all's fandoms need to stop blaming us (armys) for your incompetence and get your shit together for your favs"
"we did not get here easy, and we sure won't stop cause other people say bts already got what they deserve...i do not believe our fandom will ever be satisfied, we will keep pushing no matter what...and if this dedication sounds like too much, that's why you're not passing us"
"the worst part is you guys complain about us blocking you, but don't even acknowledge that the only reason y'all can even think about getting to bangtan's level is because we did it first, we broke the mold, we mapped the journey, we softened the obstacles, with no one's help"
