Brutal temperature crash in Europe
Two huge records only one week apart. Horrific for flora and fauna at this delicate time of year.
We are looking at the hottest March day (+25.3°C) followed by coldest April night (-20.6°C) in Slovenia

Before someone picks holes... I am not comparing maximum from one day to minimum of another.
I am stressing the temperature shock across Europe. National heat records fell only days before cold records.
Spring can be tough for nature. This is about as extreme as it gets.

Can we please not have 'oh look it dropped by 45.9°C'
This is false and means nothing. These are different sites and cannot be compared like this.
I know it may be tempting to hit this headline, but this is not scientific. The facts don't need any extra drama.

Plants and insects (also fauna that thrive on both) would have been hit incredibly hard.

Interesting measures in the Alps to prevent harsh frost damage.
Freezing crops in ice limits the temperature to 0°C. While this is still cold, this is much more survivable than -10°C for example.

And for those that say 'snow and cold in April is not unusual'.
I totally agree. We often observe dramatic and large thermal contrast in Spring.
But...

On one hand we had extreme heat and on the other extreme cold.
We clapped both hands together in the blink of an eye (relatively speaking) at a time crucial for nature.
