The experiment itself puts a person with a chinese dictionary inside a closed room. The person inside the room translated chinese texts as if he understood them, but outside observers have no knowledge of what’s happening inside the room.
Observers think the person inside has a fully capable mind and understanding of the processed texts, while in actuality he is only comparing symbols with their meanings, like a computer program, and he doesn’t truly “get” or “understand” the meaning of the text.
The Chinese Room Argument aims to refute a certain conception of the role of computation in human cognition. If a program executes orders exactly as a human would have done, can we identify the program of having a “mind” or a “consciousness” of its own?
This can practically be applied to all of umineko, starting with tohya who is writing all of his story depending on his interpretations of the texts left by Beatrice. He may have comprehended the truth, but can it be said that he truly “understands” it, by his own efforts?
Every character in umineko does not know the rules of which they should live their lives by, therefore making many mistakes along the way of resolving their inner conflicts, even if they were dead they would be lost on which way they would go to reach heaven and forgiveness.
Even if they realized Beatrice’s worldview, their interactions would be based on a form of principles told to them by someone, it wasn’t genuine, and Beatrice carved genuine love, as she was never accepted for who she was, by people who are truly convinced of her view of love.
Everyone around her treated her based on their perception of her character, not the real her. It would be useless for her to tell them how she wants to be treated, she wanted the real thing, and she hoped the battler would have this genuine love she wished for, and he did.
Battler succeeded in realizing the rules of the world & acted as an intermediary to bestow these rules upon his loved ones, but the confessions (the rulings) can never be shared, as it would void the true goal of Beato’s sad story, which is acquiring genuine love in a true sense.
