bootwt is so obsessed with ableist stereotypes and it's SO fucking annoying - a thread
ipad kid, band kid, theater kid, and horse girl are just a few of the things that are just stereotypes of autistic people and autistic behaviors that people use to mock us. let me explain:
i'll preface this by saying that i'm autistic and i worked with two of my autistic friends to make this thread 👍👍
ipad kid: many autistic kids are seen with ipads and headphones, they may have bad posture (the "autistic stance" or noticeable slouching). ipads are often used as communation devices for nonverbal kids or to provide distraction in public to prevent meltdowns.
though the "ipad kid" stereotype is generally thought of as a grimey kid with a gross tablet, a LOT of this is rooted in ableism against autistic children and young teens + those who have sensory disorders or are nonverbal
band kids: very shy or very extroverted, references "outdated" memes/trends, wears sweats/hoodies or graphic tee-shirts with "cringey" things on them, "obsessed" with band, lack of personal hygiene, watch these vids to see what i mean.

tw ableism
tw ableism
theater kid: a lot of the same stuff as band kid, references "outdated" memes or trends, "obsessed" with theater, often being described as making it their "whole life" or "entire personality". (basically what people say about special interests) -
always hanging out in the auditorium or band room (could just be quiet or comfortable/not overstimulating), no/little sense of boundaries, awkward posture/stance (again, "autistic stance"), lack of personal hygiene.
horse girl: less common in mcyttwt but no less ableist. "obsession" with horses (special interest), imitating horses (imitating animals is very common in autistic children), lack of personal hygiene, collects knowledge/knows a lot about horses and mostly/only talks about them,
"emotionally unstable" (autistic people often have low frustration levels).
adding this real quick
homeschooled kids: this is definitely less of a Thing but i've seen some people be rly weird about homeschooled kids (i was homeschooled for 13 years of my life and then was again homeschooled when c0v1d started lol)
homeschooled kids: socially awkward/social outcast, has few/no friends or thinks everyone is their friend, generally "weird" (not understanding social cues and/or boundaries).
expanding on some of these

lack of personal hygiene: it is common for autistic people to have little/no regard for personal hygiene until it is pointed out to them
hoodies/sweats: autistics usually wear comfortable clothes that aren't overstimulating and dont have a bad texture
"autistic stance" or bad posture: it's also common for autistic people to have poor posture or something known as the "autistic stance"
TL;DR: i'm sick of yall calling rnb00 and others ipad kids or cringey theater kids or whatever cause its really ableist. not mad at anyone specifically cause i think most people who say these things don't know the ableism behind those statements. so in conclusion, stop.
+ using these terms to mean something rude, bad or wrong is weird in the first place. there is nothing wrong with any of these people and they're often just ND (usually autistic)
this is muted btw if ur gonna disagree w me argue with the wall cause i really dgaf đŸ€·â€â™€ïž im right
