We're about to call in and make some comments to the Historic Albina Advisory Committee! Very curious to hear what ODOT has to say to them about our lawsuit...

You can watch live here:
Hmmmm ODOT skipped right over public comment to give Director Megan Channel and OTC Vice Chair Alando Simpson the chance to speak first. No word yet on the lawsuit!
OTC Vice Chair Alando Simpson spends his time not talking about the lawsuit but instead downplaying all of the details on the Independent Covers Assessment, which had a lot of bigger ideas for good caps that were exciting but above and beyond what ODOT could do within the EA.
"I don't think it's necessary to go through another vigorous environmental review when we have an opportunity... for an estimated $100 million going back into Black owned construction firm. Period." OTC Alando Simpson laying the cards out pretty starkly right now
sounds like "THOSE PESKY ENVIRONMENTALISTS ARE KILLING JOBS FOR BLACK OREGONIANS" is ODOT's intended response to our lawsuit!

Our pal @kasha_b spoke to this in her bikeportland op-ed: https://twitter.com/BikePortland/status/1367190106734477312
Pretty wild to watch ODOT throw the agenda out the window + bring in all their heavy-hitter Black consultants to talk about economic development and jobs before the public comment period the day after a lawsuit dropped accusing them of manipulating data to lie about air pollution
Did our best to testify at the HAAC and encourage HAAC members to come to our rally but it's virtually technologically impossible to call in via zoom (have to use a phone, no zoom link provided!) when the one-minute timer on the youtube video is on twenty second time delay.
Too many people from NMF filled out ODOT's survey demanding cleaner air and more accountability for ODOT's air pollution impacts so ODOT is discrediting their survey results
"Any claims that this expansion will be positive for air pollution is based on this faulty data. It's not the peer reviewers fault - it's ODOT's. You should ask the peer review consultants if they reviewed this data. We have proof ODOT cooked the books." - @ambrown
"air quality and greenhouse gases emissions improve slightly." - Grace Curnican, ODOT's Peer Review consultant, completely ignoring our testimony that the peer review was given faulty data by @OregonDOT and therefore of course couldn't accurately review air pollution
ODOT's solution for addressing air pollution at Albina Lillis Park and Harriet Tubman Middle School are quite Trumpian:

Build a wall!

(actually they wanna build two walls???)
the Middle School was there first.

ODOT decimated the neighborhood with a freeway.

Now they want to widen the freeway - to the detriment of the (60% nonwhite) students, for the benefit of exurban commuters.

but here have some 22 foot walls!
(the above slides are Joe Cortright's, not ODOT's, to be clear. We submitted them as written testimony this afternoon.)
ODOT's consultant now going on about how she thinks the air pollution isn't a problem because of bus electrification, as if that has anything to do with why the air pollution at Tubman is so bad.
ah! consultant gives a moment of honesty from an ODOT consultant! respect, Grace Curnican:

"What they are saying is that the traffic data that ODOT provided as a basis of the analysis is not accurate. we were not charged at looking at the traffic analysis, just the implications"
"the underlying data - the no freeway people i think - are trying to challenge it. we looked at how it was applied" but not if it was accurate.

Looks like the ODOT consultant is happy to not fall on ODOT's sword on this one....
ODOT is tired of us making fun of the project so they are ~rebranding~.

They aren't changing the project, just to be clear. Just renaming it.

That's true restorative justice the @OregonDOT way - changing your words to be more woke but not changing your actions
ODOT consultant: "the purpose of the whole new brand for the whole new community to be profiled and to be part of-"

anonymous HAAC member not on mute: "profiled?? *laughs* holy shit."

TEN SECONDS OF AWKWARD SILENCE.

SOUNDS LIKE YOUR REBRAND IS GOING SWELL @OregonDOT.
day after @OregonDOT get sued for manipulating traffic projections, ODOT spends a full 45 minutes on HIstoric Albina Advisory Committee on ~rebrand~ of the project and trying to come up with a new name for it

@OregonGovBrown @TinaKotek THE PLANET IS MELTING COME GET YOUR AGENCY
this is an extremely good and relevant use of everyone's time, yes, restorative justice for Albina will be delivered through a slick new logo
legitimately think @OregonDOT spent more taxpayer dollars on these new mock up logos than No More Freeways has spent in the last six months suing them for lying to us about air pollution
Like this tweet to wave at all of the ODOT consultants pulling out their hair while reading our thread and getting horrified about our lawsuit

We gave up livetweeting hours ago but thanks to all who followed along. If you’re laughing about how dumb ODOT is come laugh with us in person (wearing masks, socially distant) at our rally with Tubman students (!!) and @sunrisepdx on Friday. More info: http://www.nomorefreewayspdx.com/tubmanrally
If you aren’t in Portland and can’t come to our rally it’ll be live-streamed! And you can donate whatever’s in your pocket ($5, $15, $150, whatever) and we’ll mail you a handwritten thank you card as well as a few of our iconic buttons and stickers http://www.nomorefreewayspdx.com/donate
just to follow up on this thread, @Jonathan_Maus posted the edited clip from the HAAB meeting on Tuesday when @oregondot's consultant said they were going to "profile" the community and someone accidentally not on mute said "holy shit!" https://twitter.com/Jonathan_Maus/status/1380281604291981316
