Under the federal constitution, there is no requirement for a Malaysian to speak Malay - at all. Zero. As long as you have a blue IC, you are a citizen of Malaysia.

Btw, you are not native. Don't flatter yourself. https://twitter.com/IzwanRambles/status/1379376864930660352
The idea that non-Malays have to able to converse in Malay is something that was engineered during Mahathir's first tenure as PM as to solidify the Malay identity.

Ironically, the man is not at all Malay - he is an Indian.
Our first PM, Tunku Abdul Rahman was more comfortable speaking in English than Malay. Are you telling everyone that he is not Malaysian simply because of this?

Laughable. These people have nothing but an idenitty crisis.
The Malay-Muslim identity is about to face a crisis. One that has been engineered long time ago as a result of the Islamic Revolution in Iran. Malaysian governments - post 1969 - have successfully seeded this into the subconscious of the Malays.
It's going to come crashing down like house of cards soon enough. It's just way of them holding as much power as they can while hood winking the working class Malays.

Working class Malays are clearly struggling - the only way to keep them submissive is identity.

"Orang kita"
When an individual or a group of people feel shame about themselves as a person or as a collective group, they start venturing into identity politics.

They cannot stand as individuals. As a result, they cannot stand as a tribe also. So they keep banging the "Bangsa Melayu" drum.
From young, they are taught non-Malays are a threat to their way of life and identity which is a lie. Blame Mahathir and Anwar for this. Their politics in the 80's revolved around the Malay-Muslim identity, they now cannot contain the monster they have created.
The constitution guarantees their position as the supreme race here in Malaysia. Free education, discount for property, etc.

As long as you are Malay, you are taken care of. Everyone keeps banging on about Malay idenitty solely because the Chinese/Indians are more 'resilient'.
Rather than doing away with Malay-centric political parties who have monopolised Malaysian politics, it's easier to antagonise non-Malays. As a result of this are seen as the enemies.
