DS9 is by far my fave Star Trek pilot episode. It tells a great story and establishes the characters so, so well.
One of the best relationships ever on TV, period.
Aaaaand there she is. My hero @NanaVisitor!
Honestly Nerys is the reason I watch this series over and over.
I absolutely LOVE the way Nerys shuts Bashir down when he starts talking about being excited to practice “frontier medicine.” She refuses to let him “other” her own people. It’s really well done.
(ended the ep halfway through because I go to sleep early, back to it today!)
God, Dukat’s introduction is good. His rapport with Sisko, his veiled threats, flaunting his inside information/the fact that he still has informants on Bajor.
Also the visual of the wormhole opening never gets old, it’s still gorgeous
Sisko realizing what the Prophets mean when they say “you exist here” 😭
Nana Visitor did not come to play
It’s possible I know these lines by heart
WHEW Julian has a long way to go but I kind of love how obnoxious the character is when the series starts. He has SUCH tremendous character growth.
fyi I’d watch a show where present day Jake Sisko and Molly O’Brien team up to solve crimes written by @extspace
The idea of Cardassian collaborators is so profound and big, and I love how much thought and effort the writers put into it.
Armin Shimerman is FAN-fucking-TASTIC. I love the antagonistic-but-with-love dynamic with Odo.
(the more general writing of the Ferengi leaves a LOT to be desired, but Armin is a fantastic actor and BRINGS IT for this role.)
GUESS WHO (this deserves an @unamccormack shout out, this rewatch is mostly her fault)
PLAIN SIMPLE GARAK
oh no. I'm here.
At the Kai Opaka episode. Whew.
Nana Visitor in this episode 😭😭😭
She's so unbelievably good
I've had a lot of people tell me they think the series doesn't really get good until season 4, and it does up its game at that point, but that approach does a disservice to the incredible groundwork laid in episodes like this one.
nerys: i don’t want you to think that i’m this violent person without a soul, without a conscience. that’s not who i am.
opaka: don’t deny the violence inside of you, kira. only when you accept it can you move beyond it.

😭😭😭
“i’m afraid the prophets won’t forgive me”
“they’re just waiting for you to forgive yourself”

dear.

lord.
THE BEGINNING OF A BEAUTIFUL FRIENDSHIP
I didn’t tweet through it, but I watched the ep last night with the stubborn Bajoran settler on the moon Nerys is trying to relocate, and the speech Sisko gives her where he tells her “I like you” SLAYS ME EVERY TIME
The way the show builds their relationship is just fantastic
(yes I’m going to live tweet my entire DS9 rewatch so please mute this thread if you don’t care)
This duo is ICONIC
"Every 16 hours I turn into a liquid!"
"I can swim!!!!”

ICONIC.
I love how much we see of both these characters in this episode. It’s so important for odo’s development!
The vulnerability he shows is just fantastic.
Let’s be real, this duo is also fantastic.
I can't BELIEVE she's only credited in 14 episodes of DS9. It seems unreal that someone who had such a huge impact on the series was in so few episodes!!!
It’s funny how Ben asks Vedek Winn to not call him the Emissary. I love the journey of him coming to accepting, and then embracing, that role.
BAREIL.
I’m watching “The Circle” and I have about 8 million thoughts to tweet on this five minute scene where people randomly come to Nerys’s quarters to say goodbye. It’s SO GOOD. First: Dax wants to return the body lotion that Nerys lent her!!!
For a lot of people, sharing your skincare products with your closest friends is an act of love!!!!! And I love that this is one of the ways they’ve bonded!!!!!!!!!!! 24TH CENTURY SKINCARE!!!!!!!!!!!! (it’s such a small thing, but it rings so true for me and my friendships)
She's acting so irritated 😭😭😍😍
IT'S A PARTY
And then Bareil shows up and Nerys sighs and says, “These are my friends.”

It’s funny, but it’s also such an emotional and beautiful scene with this hard, sharp woman coming to terms that her friends are fighting to keep her.
(I say hard and sharp as a compliment, not an insult.)
AND SISKO — “I’m going to get you back, Major. I promise that to both of us.”

God. This is one of those arcs that shines.
As someone who finds friendships difficult a lot of the time, and feels like I’m giving too much or not enough, I really really love the way DS9 depicts friendships.
I think I’m done with thoughts from this one scene but I reserve the right to come back to it.
Onto “The Siege,” I feel like this is also the arc where Julian’s character grows up a bit.
Yep. Love him.
The person who writes the Netflix episode descriptions gets it.
This is the BEST possible response
Parenting goals, honestly
There are a lot of things I can say about Keiko and Miles, but one thing I will say is that I appreciate that she was never portrayed as a submissive Asian woman. They never used that (gross) stereotype and I love that.
Haven’t checked in on this thread in a little while, but made it to the beginning of season 3! The Search I & II completely changes the direction of the series and I love these eps.
