Bruno Mars, despite being one of the biggest male artists of our generation, is still rather overshadowed by his fellow competitors of today’s music industry. In other words, he deserves a bit more recognition for his music. (A thread)
Now, I don’t feel like dealing with pressed Twitter stans, so if you are not easily offended, you can ignore these few tweets of me explaining myself to these kids on here…
Let me make myself clear. I don’t hate anyone. This is not meant to bash other artists in this industry. Do not take this personally or “attack” me in any way. This is just me representing Bruno’s entire fandom.

If you can’t take constructive criticism, turn back now.
I don’t even consider myself to be part of Stan Twitter anymore. I kinda grew up tbh. I still tweet under posts about my fav artists, but I don’t consider myself to be a “stan” anymore, since Stan Twitter is toxic. But I’m still not afraid to voice my opinions to other ppl
And one more thing, yes, I know this person is not really “underrated”, but in comparison to most of the other A-Listers, they are more likely to be talked about than Bruno.

This is meant for a more “in-depth” discussion if that makes sense. Let’s dive in.
Okay, so Bruno Mars. 28 chart entries, 7 #1 hits, 15 top tens. 11 Grammys, 2x Super Bowl performer and has two of the most memorable songs of this generation. “Just the Way You Are” an “Uptown Funk.”

You'd think he'd be one of the most talked about musicians of this generation.
But nope. Even though you can’t imagine today’s music without him, he is still for some reason overshadowed by his peers (both men and women). And this has been happening since the beginning of his career.
Yes, Twitter isn’t everything. I of all people know that. GP loves him. But on the internet, I’d say Bruno Mars would be one of the least likely people to be talked about regarding modern music. Ever smaller acts like Selena Gomez or Shawn Mendes would more likely be talked about
Now, I think one great way to start this off is to discuss the 24k Magic era. I have a lot to say about this whole thing so let’s get 24k Magic out the way.
This was Bruno’s latest solo era that produced three top 10 singles, a multi-platinum album, and several Grammy wins. Before all this, he was already an established A-Lister, coming off a 14 week #1 with Mark Ronson in 2015 with a song pretty much everyone knows.
A literal pop culture moment. It was kind of a warning to 24k Magic though, because funk inspired music would be his sound for his new era. Thus, 24k Magic was born.
Now, when the album came out, people did like it. However, he received criticism by being called a “tribute act” or a “throwback artist” by making 80s inspired music. Yet, this is a major example of how weirdly underrated Bruno actually is. Underrated as in "underappreciated"
Yall know Blinding Lights, Say So, Don’t Start Now, and Rain on Me? All of these songs were recognizable hits last year, starting the trend of “80s inspired pop music”. But wait a minute…
If Bruno literally got criticized for this, and it’s only getting appreciated now, that means that Bruno was basically four years ahead of his time. (I’m surprised not many people realize this.)
I’m not saying he “started” this, but he definitely made an entire album all about it and that was what his whole era was about. But people don’t give him props for that, because like I said, people don’t give this man enough credit. Remember?
Lemme say this for all these sensitive stans. I’m not saying any artist that made 80s inspired music last year owes Bruno anything. I’m just saying Bruno deserves at least a bit of respect for it. But it doesn’t happen.
(Here’s a nitpick before I talk about Grammys 2018. That’s What I Like reached #1 after knocking off Ed Sheeran’s Shape of You and almost no one cared…)
But anyways onto the infamous 2018 Grammys. When Bruno won over Lorde and Kendrick Lamar, Twitter just LOST their mind.
Immediately they began discrediting Bruno saying that Lorde deserved the AOTY award and not him. It’s their opinion, but you don’t have to put Bruno down just to support Lorde. But yall know how Twitter acts.
I know Grammys arent all about charts, but at the same time, they’re not all about Metacritic scores either. You wouldn’t believe the amount of hate this man got.
And while I’m at it, how come there were 23925395 people complaining about Lorde not winning, but not nearly as many people about Kendrick not winning? Would Kendrick get the same hate if he won instead of Bruno?
But that’s not all. It gets worse. Sometime later, this “Seren Sensei” chick on YouTube tried to discredit Bruno Mars by saying he’s a cultural appropriator… JUST because he’s a non-black artist making R&B sounding music…
And people act like SJWs do not exist?? Not many people sided with her but it still made noise on Twitter. So because Bruno is not black, he has no right to make R&B sounding music…. I don’t get it…
If anything, he’s a cultural appreciator. Of course they didn’t do research, but if they did, Bruno has already credited black artists throughout his whole career. What more does this man have to do???
Imagine trying to take down one of the most successful male artists of this generation just because you’re offended by the music he makes. There are so many REAL racist tragedies going on right now, but you waste your time discrediting Bruno of ALL people.
I know a lot of people say that Bruno is not as talked about simply because he “minds his business”. I agree with that actually. He is unproblematic. But then,... Beyonce is rarely on Twitter and she is STILL talked about a lot.
Always having to PROVE why he's successful. How come other artists can easily have multiple songs in the top 10? How come Bruno can’t flood the chart like other artists can? Why can’t Bruno get a #1 debut but everybody else can?
Here’s one more topic: you know how they compare every male pop artist to Michael Jackson (even compare Bey to him). But for some reason, they think Chris Brown of ALL people is the new MJ…
Even Justin Bieber has a bigger impact. But no. Bruno is not even referred to the “prince of pop”, let alone anything above that. (Not saying they should compare ANYONE to MJ, but if you’re gonna call them the new MJ, throw Bruno in it too.)
Overall, like someone else said last week, Bruno Mars is like the male Janet Jackson. Always competing against other people in their time but don’t get as talked about, but STILL making hits. Anyways stream #LeavetheDoorOpen
Alright, fellow Hooligans. Let’s spread this and not let this flop. Bruno Mars deserves more recognition.
