(1) My team this morning had strength testing at gym and I was disappointed I didn't hit the goals I thought I would. I kinda mentioned to my team mate that I had just finished my period and that I heard that affects your strength capacity. We had a chat about it and spoke to our
(2) trainer agreed but said that there is not enough research to strictly base gym program sessions on. There are also other limitations that would make this difficult ie athletes being out of sync I have also heard that the majority of female ACL injuries occur within 8 days of
(3) their period ends too?? TO BE CLEAR I only have experience in gyms as an athlete and am only really speaking about this now because I can't believe I haven't really considered this before
(4) My questions are, a) how is it 2021 and athletes are still adhering to research and strength protocols that don't properly cater for them? What is the best step forward for this to be considered? Teams should be having education sessions not just around diet, recovery
(5) and training but around our menstrual cycle.  b) is it difficult to conduct research in this area? Are there constraints? Are there opportunities to conduct a study into this?
(6) c) are there any sporting teams/ orgs that are willing to take/ already taking periods into consideration for their athletes?
Wow - some great discussions and articles being highlighted here. I am genuinely shocked that I actually haven't considered this before. Thanks everyone for sharing, I'm going to keep educating myself and hope we see some/more changes implemented for women's sport in Aus 🤓
