I have finally ascended in regards to capeshit and can comphrend and enjoy every take on a character, whether it is in comics or film, regarding it simply as that: someone's particular take on a character, their vision and their interests.
Continuity, on the long run, is something stupid and unnecessary for characters who are gonna outlive us all. Making a story that actually feels relevant and can endure the test of time and be considered an essential, that feels much more important.
Putting your all into a character, understanding them through your own lense and trying to share with the world how you perceive said character and what you like about them, whether it is by writing them or drawing them...
THAT is more important than knowing what's Peter Parker's social security number or where does The Spectacular Spider-Man issues fit within The Amazing Spider-Man narrative while they were being published at the same time.
And if I don't vibe with one particular take... Well, it's just that, someone has a different take on a character than me, or than the general audience. Nothing to really get angry about, cause, again, this characters are gonna outlive us all and they live in an infinite loop.
Just a random thought that occurred to me while reading Cates' Thor run on a certain website (because I'm poor!) and seeing all the nerds discussing about continuity, retcons, how they think Jason Aaron's Thor and Odin are cucks, or how Cates' doesn't know Thor's lore...
... And I'm like, "what does it matter? lol" The book bangs, ngl. Finally found it's footing in this arc, it's got fantastic artwork by Nic Klein and it's what Cates wanted to do with the character.
Why should it matter if he has a different interpretation on something than previous writers? It's all made up nonsense, let artists experiment! That would actually be critical for making superhero comic books, and everything adjacent to it, more respected
