#ZeroCovid is possible even starting with high case numbers, overwhelmed hospitals and inability to test/trace/isolate.
Italy did it last year. It wasn't the good weather that brought them close to zero. It was the hard lockdown they went through. 1/
Have we forgotten the images from Bergamo, the army trucks carrying the coffins of the deceased, the morgues overflowing? They started from a very bad place.

I know. My family is in Bologna. I read the Italian papers. I spoke to my brother at length.
Everything was shut down. For real. Not like our mockdowns. They had to fill "autocertificazioni",a sort of visa, stating why they were out of their apartment and where they were going3/
You could only go to work, to buy groceries and prescription drugs, and for a short walk within a certain distance from your apartment. For example, a friend got fined because she inadvertently moved past that area when walking her dog 4/
At some point they stopped selling non grocery or essential items in grocery stores. You could no longer buy paper and pens, toys for kids and so on. This all to have people move along, get their food, and go home. 5/
In grocery stores there were announcements continuously reminding people to be quick, buy their stuff and leave. No lingering around, no chatting. There were roadblocks asking to verify the visas. Thousands of fines were issued to people not respecting the rules. 6/
This is what brought the numbers down. Not the Spring. Not the Summer.
The Summer was their big mistake. They opened their borders, they lowered their guard, and slowly but surely they welcomed in the second wave. 7/
So, ZeroCovid is possible even when starting from a bad place like the one the Covid-6 are right now. It requires never lowering the guard, even when success is achieved. All the steps for success are detailed at
