#Justsaying It was a week ago that I shared my last tweet thread re #CareReview Just putting together whilst we await @article_39 FOI request my Consultation response https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/968442/Unregulated_childcare_provision_-_Analytical_Report_Final.pdf I guess given my shame Having watched/listened to intently about #RaceReport I 1/2
I shouldn’t be surprised that 165 voice from across our #cep family were omitted from the Research Report and despite consider effort no response either. I guess my humble views didn’t even connect with the light of day. But at least I get to share some parts with you 💜🙏🌈
1/10 Intro: I believe we should invest in the lives of our children and young people and extend our Care to 18 and if not 21. Significantly, until such time young people feel equipped, enabled and empowered to move on. This is the aspiration behind #CARINGTEAMS and reflected
2/10 This is the aspiration behind #CARINGTEAMS and reflects Top 10 Messages presented to Secretary of State in Oct 2019 by Care Experienced Conference Team
3/10 Positive/Negative Impact of Legislation
Although, I don't fully understand subtleties of proposed legislative changes, Im concerned this maybe one further step away from hopes/aspirations of CARINGTEAMS. Indeed, it feels like a move/justification for Care to leave
4/10 our young people aged 16. I accept this may not be the intention but is my perception. To ‘Press On' simply gives impression Government isn't listening and will miss yet another opportunity to have many more voices heard.
5/10 I hope Government is able to respect the view (Top 10 Messages 8 ) 'having our say is essential'. I believe a significant proportion of the signatories of Article 39's letter are care experienced.
6/10. Whilst, I welcome Governments acknowledgement following unrelenting pressure from Public/ Media over 18 months of their need to review use of unregulated and non inspected provision, its only one step in a huge number of steps which need to be taken if, we are truly
7/10 to bring about a transformative change in our children/young people’s care. I hope that your Consultation and promised Care Review will enable/ empower the synergy/energy, love and compassion experienced by a ALL those who attended Conference.
8/10 . But, for that to occur the CEP family/community will have to believe/experience that you are truly listening to their views. Which, may not be reflected by a chosen few. END #ECLCM 💜🙏🌈
I didn’t need 10 I’ve 3 other sections which I’ll share over next 3 weekends as part of another long thread. I will also share them mid week. Both @educationgovuk & @JoshMacAlister are most welcome to read whole Response at ANON-1B1H-AE8N-R Certainly, none heard my voice 💜🙏🌈
Thanks to ALL those who read my thread. I hope you don’t mind me sharing it again. Shared with great Hope/Love and that in some small way it might #BeTheDifference 💜🙏🌈
This Thread. 💜🌈🙏
Good morning everyone. This Thread Some of you will know I’ve written to my MP @mikejwood and @JoshMacAlister and very happy for our #CareReview Team to see original
sent should they wish DM me. I shall add 2nd of 4 Threads at the weekend. 💜🙏🌈
Good evening @mikejwood I understand that @article_39 has now received a response to their FOI request. See above. No doubt there maybe questions which arise which I would still want you to raise on my behalf. Look forward to hearing from you. Wishing you both a good evening
Good morning everyone This Thread the 2nd of 4 which I have made both @JoshMacAlister @mikejwood and our of courtesy today @edwardtimpson I guess because @martinnarey was involved in this Journey Martin might be interested too Mind you ECLCM was always worth it’s weight in gold .
1/10 I’m struck by implied failure 'Introduction' of Local Authorities not setting ‘High BAR for level of Care’ and not ‘provide right level of support’ that place children at risk. When real issues are 10 years of austerity, crushing family poverty & failure to properly invest.
2/10 I firmly believe young people should be cared for as long as required. Indeed, replicate the love/care experienced within family and not be thrust into escalated transition arrangements because they are in the Care of the State. @edwardtimpson @KerryMP
3/10 Indeed, there is ample evidence which suggests most young people remain with their families until their mid twenties. Indeed, I firmly support the Governments Mantra 'Would this be Good enough for your own Child
/10 Give an example of best practice

The Tyneside Staying Close Project was closest to CARINGTEAMS Certainly, the focus on childhood, becoming, growth/maturity, love, continuity, stability of relationships and team around the child was paramount .
5/10 There’ve developed robust links with mental health/well being services and there essence/focus was very much on family relationship & good parenting. They didn’t use the word transition rather they saw an opportunity for their children and young people to experience life
6/10 outside of the children’s home albiet in same surroundings. The young people’s access to daily life, practical stuff/family, sunday dinners was all part of the norm. Inspirational/Aspirational stuff really. What struck me was staff didn’t dictate the Journey
7/10. Rather, the journey was lead by the young people themselves. Thus , at each and every point lives were being underpinned by love, hopefulness, certainty and security they ‘Became’ Rather than Pushed and I was led to understand that if they chose to move into the POD
8/10 that if, fore-whatever reason that didn’t work out they could move back into the children’s home. First, they learnt and experienced interdependence before they learnt independence. Leaving the children's home and surrounding interdependent accommodation ‘Reach for the Sky’
9/10 Akin to a young person early twenties leaving home and getting a flat/home. It was the certainly that enabled/empowered self confidence, self esteem & self belief and was viewed as both nurturing/enabling. I guess very much like what family’s do
10/10 But know they have a loving home if they make a mess of things. I think/believe that it the kind of culture that I’m thinking of . Which, as you can imagine is very far removed from the above where it feels like Care is also removed at 16 The End 💜🙏🌈
