Kirishima's convinced that Bakugo's planning to propose.

He’s been suspicious for a while. It started when he caught Bakugo on the phone, having arrived a bit earlier from patrol than usual. Bakugo hadn’t noticed he’d entered their apartment and Kirishima hovered at the door of their room, not wanting to interrupt.
He couldn’t make out everything being said, but he heard enough.
“It’s finally time… I have to ask him.”

Kirishima stumbled back from the door, retreating to the front door and making a big show of reentering the apartment. Bakugo was out of their room a second later, pushing up his hair and greeting Kirishima with a tight hug.
“Hey man, what’s the occasion?” Kirishima said, ignoring his rapid beating heart.
“Just happy to see you, idiot.” Bakugo buried his face in Kirishima’s shoulder for a moment, squeezing tighter before releasing him.
Kirishima couldn’t help the massive grin that erupted onto his face, his cheek muscles were sore from smiling but he knew what he heard. And he already knew what his answer was going to be.
For a moment, Bakugo seemed taken aback from the smile, his eyebrows creeping up slightly. It was a temporary reaction, as one of his genuine smiles emerged.
There was nothing more beautiful than his boyfriend’s real smile, the one he hid behind smirks and frowns and tensed expressions. When that all faded away, Kirishima got to have the most beautiful expression all to himself.
Bakugo leaned closer and pressed his hand against Kirishima’s face for a moment, squeezing his cheek slightly before retreating.
“Dinner’s almost ready, go take a shower. You stink.”

“It’s the manly stench of heroes!”

“Yeah, and it’s not invited to dinner.”
He gave Bakugo his most dramatic pout on his way to the bathroom. Kirishima spent the next ten minutes in the shower, daydreaming about the proposal with his cheek resting against his intertwined hands.

The second hint he got was through an interview. He found the clip during his lunch break, after searching up Dynamight on his phone. It was dated from the previous night, some particularly gutsy reporter must have caught him right after he got off his shift.
“Mr. Dynamight, sir! A moment!”

Bakugo turned towards the voice with a particularly unnerving grimace, one he reserved especially for the press. He didn’t give them the satisfaction of a response, waiting to see what question they’d ask.
“Would you like to address the rumors that you have a secret girlfriend?”

“Eh?”
The reporter held up a picture of Bakugo next to a jewelry shop, decked out in a hat, sunglasses, and mask. Still, the figure was unmistakably him. “Jewelry seems a bit unusual for you, could it be a gift for a special someone?”
“I wear earrings all the fucking time, why does it have to be a girl?”

The reporter seemed to have selective hearing. “Oh, should I have said partner instead?”
That caught Bakugo off guard. He didn’t seem to have a good response, so he settled on a classic. “You should’ve left me alone, I’m tired after spending the day saving your asses.”

Without further comment, he disappeared off camera.
Kirishima wanted to be ashamed by how he blushed at the thought of Bakugo buying him jewelry. He couldn’t, the implication sent butterflies to his stomach and for a moment he was worried he was about to vomit rainbows. That’s just who Bakugo was, the man who made him lovesick.
The man who bought all of his earrings online, who would’ve only gone out of his way to some fancy jewelry store to buy one very specific item.
Holy shit. Did Bakugo really buy him a ring? Kirishima buried his face in his hands, he was trembling in anticipation. Bakugo was going to propose, they were going to get married, he was going to have the manliest husband in the world.
The rest of his patrol, Kirishima couldn’t stop smiling. By the end of the day, a couple of news articles had been published about his unshakable grin. The assumption seemed to be he’d gotten a new girlfriend.
It wasn’t the least bit correct, and he had a good laugh about it with Bakugo, yet at the same time it felt perfectly spot on.

The third hint was during one of his monthly dinners with his moms. It was brought up casually, his mother shifted to the topic of how Tomo had already adopted a couple of kids with his husband.
Kirishima had heard all about this particular conversational landmine from his friends, but his own moms had never brought it up before.
Just as he expected, right after Tomo’s entire life as a new parent had been shared, the conversation was shifted to him.
“Have you thought about ever adopting some kids of your own?” His ma asked.

“It’s never really come up? I mean, the job isn’t super ideal for it.”

“But between you and Bakugo, I’m sure you’d both be more than capable.”
“And you’ve been dating for almost three years now. It feels like something you should seriously consider, Eijirou.” His mother winked at him, and he glanced away with a burning face.
Bakugo, with kids? Bakugo, getting down on one knee and proposing to Kirishima and then adopting kids? He adored the thought. Kirishima never had put much thought into being parents, and now it was all rushing towards him in a flurry of excitement.
He loved the idea more than he ever thought he would, and it was all thanks to how Bakugo’d be involved.
Kirishima had seen his boyfriend interact with kids plenty of times on patrol. Bakugo, the most notoriously hot headed pro hero, was also one of the most attentive heroes when it came to listening to kids.
If anything, it was the one place Bakugo beat him on when it came to public relations. Kirishima still had a tendency to make kids cry, and while he knew it wasn’t his fault hardening was intimidating, it still broke his heart.
There was one time Bakugo had to scoop up a kid and reassure them after Kirishima had hardened to block an incoming attack, and while he’d felt ashamed at scaring another kid, he was more focused on how adorable it was to watch Bakugo cradle the toddler in his arms.
Bakugo was gentle, but he never babied the kids. He was direct and clear and always took them seriously, especially the ones who declared he was their hero.
The quiet joy on Bakugo’s face after those moments in particular was an unique one he never saw anytime else.
More than anything else, Kirishima knew that’s what made being a hero worth it for Bakugo.
He glanced up at his moms, who were both giving him amused looks.

“You just imagined Bakugo with a kid, didn’t you.”

“Wh- was it that obvious?”

His ma giggled. “Yes, it was.”
They dropped the conversation after that, likely choosing to let Kirishima’s imagination continue to run while for the rest of the meal. Once they’d finished, Kirishima got a hug from both his moms and a final, teasing comment.
“We expect to be invited to the wedding, Eijirou.”
Kirishima was too speechless to respond to that. Of course his moms were coming to his wedding! But they’d never brought it up before. He felt warm all over, and he couldn’t help but wonder if Bakugo had recently stopped by to visit his moms.

Kirishima really hoped he had.

The final hint was the most damning, not that Kirishima needed any more convincing. He was putting away some new Dynamight themed boxers when he felt a strange lump in Bakugo’s neatly folded underwear. Kirishima couldn’t resist pushing them aside.
Underneath, just as he had suspected, was a box. It was red with a velvet texture, the size and shape pointing to only one conclusion. Kirishima forced himself to push the underwear back immediately, taking deep breaths as his heartbeat thundered in his ears.
The urge to peek was strong, but he refused to ruin Bakugo’s final surprise.
He hastily shoved his new boxers into the drawer and made his way into the living room to sit down on the couch, trying to calm his heartbeat down. There was a ring inside that box. A ring that Bakugo had bought, and hid, and was waiting for the perfect moment to use.
How would he propose? Would it be something quiet and casual, a moment between the two of them in their apartment? Or would he plan something out, bring Kirishima to a restaurant, woo him with delicious meat and flowers before taking him someplace quiet to drop the question?
Kirishima gazed up at the ceiling and smiled. He couldn’t wait.
Bakugo entered the apartment a few minutes later. To his credit, his boyfriend didn’t seem too surprised to find Kirishima sprawled out on the couch wearing nothing but his new boxers, Bakugo simply tossed his gear aside and flopped down on top of him.
Bakugo’s face was still covered in a light sheen of sweat, he must’ve just got out of the fight. It meant he reeked of smoke and nitroglycerin, but Kirishima didn’t mind.
He loved the smell of burnt sugar, it was a comforting presence along with the weight of Bakugo on top of him.
Their whole apartment smelled naturally sweet, it was the first reaction most people had when they came by to visit. Bakugo tried to fight it by cooking more savory and spice heavy foods, but his efforts were ultimately in vain.
Whenever he had to spend time away from Bakugo, Kirishima would always bring a vial of sugar with him.
Sniffing that wasn’t enough, when he got especially lonely he’d turn on the stove and melt the sugar down, letting the sharp burn waft through the room. He’d only triggered the fire alarms three times doing it, and it was a score he was quite proud of.
At the moment he had the real deal, curled up with him on their couch wearing most of his grime covered hero costume. Still, Bakugo was warm and Kirishima pulled him even closer, wrapping his arms around his back and trapping his boyfriend with endless cuddles.
“How are you doing, bro?” Kirishima murmured, idly playing with Bakugo’s damp hair.
“Tired as shit, I had to fight some idiot with a deflection quirk, which meant blasting around him until he ran out of energy. Then a whole bunch of reporters popped up outta nowhere and I had to scram.”
“Are they still hounding you over your last interview?”

Bakugo grumbled something vaguely frustrated into Kirishima’s chest, before looking back up at him. “They’re all so fuckin’ noisy, half are convinced I’m gay and the other half want to prove I’m homophobic.”
“What’s wrong with both? Be a trendsetter.”

Bakugo snorted and rolled his eyes “How can I be homophobic when I have you in my life?”

“Awwww,”
“Shut up, I take it back, I am homophobic.”

“I can kiss it better, don’t worry. True love’s kiss will cure you.”

Bakugo’s expression would be best described as a grouchy cat trying to convey happiness. “Fine.”
Kirishima leaned in and pressed his lips against Bakugo’s. He tasted sweet, always did, and Kirishima made a show of licking his own lips when he pulled back.
“Feel better?”

“Yeah.” Bakugo mumbled, a soft smile melting onto his face. “I’m falling asleep on you, alright?”
“Alright man, love you.”

“Love you too.”

Kirishima continued to run his fingers through Bakugo’s hair, smiling at his sleeping boyfriend. He couldn’t wait to marry him.
~~~
When Bakugo asked if he wanted to go on a hiking trip, Kirishima’s heart started doing flips.
They were able to go hiking roughly twice a year since they started dating, coordinating a time where they could both take time off with no risk of being called back in for emergencies.
Kirishima packed his outfits carefully, including his current favorite pair of crocs and the top that Bakugo affectionally called his piss shirt.
They reached the mountain midday. Bakugo had picked out a hike that snaked up to the summit, and giving their usual speed they’d make it there right around sunset.
The hike was beautiful. It started down a forest trail, deep in the belly of the woods. The forest was lush and warm, a small river flowed next to the path and the sunlight was filtered down through the trees in an array of separate directions.
Some reflected onto Bakugo, giving him an etherial look. Kirishima grabbed his hand and as soon as he had Bakugo’s attention, leaned in to sneak a kiss. Bakugo reciprocated, and continued holding Kirishima’s hand for the rest of the hike.
The path slowly exited the woods and emerged out to the grassy and steep portion of the climb. It was an intense workout on their calves, but the challenge was fun and they ended up racing each other to the top of the mountain.
Bakugo won, but Kirishima definitely saw him sneakily using his quirk to gain more momentum in their final moments.
They both took a moment to lie down and catch their breath. The top of the mountain was flat, with one large tree for shade. They’d been there before, Kirishima was sure that if he looked he could find a heart with their initials on it lightly carved into the tree.
It was the perfect location, his brain informed him.
Bakugo stood up and stepped over to him, holding out his hand. Kirishima took it and let himself be pulled up. The instant he was standing, Bakugo stood on his tiptoes and kissed him.
They traded quiet kisses for a bit, embracing and enjoying the solitude found on top of that mountain.
Bakugo pulled away, taking a moment to look at Kirishima. He stared back, all of his feelings caught in his throat, wondering what going to happen next.
“Eijirou, there’s something I’ve been meaning to ask you.” Bakugo cleared his throat, taking a deep breath before sinking down onto one knee.
Kirishima’s heart leaped, one hand had already covered his mouth as he watched his boyfriend steady himself. He stared at Kirishima’s feet before slowly lifting his head up to make direct eye contact.
The yes was hovering on Kirishima’s lips, threatening to slip out before Bakugo even had the chance to say anything.
“What are those?”
Bakugo was pointing at his crocs.
“How can you possibly hike in those? I asked you to bring shoes with support, and this isn’t what I meant, Ei.”
