An established rule in Umineko is that parents aren’t able to function correctly without martial love, so in many instances we are able to witness in clarity the moments where love is lost, and its devastating mental effects on the sorrowful widow.
The first of them is Natsuhi, which is driven into a corner in a grand spectacle arranged by Bernkastel, and was completely denied of her martial love and identity. She was very brave in holding the Ushiromiya honor until the moment her husband was no more.
The second one was Eva, who went into a fit after not finding her husband by her side in the morning, and is known to indulge in periods of anxiety unless her husband is there to grab her hand, she literally is a person who cannot stand straight on her own without her family.
The third is kyrie, who decided to live in a delusion of anger and hatred for many years, that ended with a big bang of massacre just to preserve the image she had of a family. Many parallels can be drawn here to Yasu’s period of waiting and birth circumstances.
It is now easier to imagine, and get interested in what made Rosa alive all these years without love. The short answer is: she wasn’t, she has been living literally like a ghost for all these years, wishing someone would just kill her and end her hell.
From a young age, Rosa has internalized all her pain and sadness inside herself, believing she is the sole responsible for anything and everything, and that she should just atone for anything by disappearing. Knowing That, Yasu offers her a chance for redemption.
Yasu wonders about Rosa's opinion on love, on which she stated she idealized her defeat, and is just living to pay off her sins. Moreover she regretted dragging her own daughter into her hell of regret and deterioration.
Having made a full judgement of her life,Yasu decides to end it in a kind and swift way. Enabling her to be free from the hell, but what was not expected was the reason rosa hasn’t gone full suicidal till now, which is the love of her daughter, amassing great hatred towards Yasu
I use the term Yasu because that’s literally how Yasu thought, that maria would have been better without her mother in alliance, but it was the opposite, maria was saving her own mother from death, and she was fully conscious of that fact.
It’s sweet if you connect the dots and realize that marriage sorciere, created by yasu, was indirectly able to instruct two girls on magic in order to cope with their harsh reality, and enable them to understand their own mothers, even in death.
So it can be theorized that Yasu helped preserve those mothers’s lives a bit indirectly, which also fits within nanjo’s context of what success means: a happy family that can’t be bought with money or status, a wonderful daughter brimming with life and love.
Rosa was a broken human, but she was in full awareness of her familial responsibilities and mistakes, as stated by the narration of yasu in legend, when rosa brought tea to cure natsuhi’s headache, a gesture no other sibling would have thought about.
