Client: Can you review this agreement? It’s coming from the division, not me or my team so I’m not reviewing it and I don’t really care what we’re getting out of it.
Me: I don’t support the division. This has to go to their regional legal counsel.

Client: The regional counsel barely looked at it! He just tweaked one thing. This agreement is a mess. I need you to fix it for me because it’s too much and I’m not going to do it.

Technically, this isn’t her job either, so I don’t know why she’s so stressed. I would be more sympathetic but this woman is wholly unconcerned with every single thing she sends to me.
Common law dept conversation:
Boss: Who’s working on this?
Me: [HER NAME]
Boss: Oh, God.

Guess what! It’s back! I was sent an email chain where my client told whomever generated this deal that I had reviewed the exclusivity language & approved it. Which 1) I never even looked at this agreement and 2) exclusivity is not a legal issue so I don’t review it anyways.
But because she said that, the attorney who SHOULD be reviewing it didn’t (thinking that I already had) AND didn’t bother to reach out to verify anything with me. I’m dropping this in my boss’ lap. Lying about what the law dept tells you is cause for termination at my company.
