#luckae angst, insecurity. Vent fic.
Diluc’s working behind the bar. Kaeya is slowly nursing a glass of grape juice (because Diluc had refused to give him anything else). Unbidden, Kaeya asks, “Diluc, do you love me?”
Diluc nearly dropped the bottle he was holding. “What?”

Diluc nearly dropped the bottle he was holding. “What?”
Kaeya ignores how Charles had choked. Let him eavesdrop. Kaeya needs to know. He’s testing a little... theory. “Do you love me?” He repeats. Today, his chest is hurting, and there’s a crushing weight on his shoulders. He just wonders, is all. Doubt, or insecurity, if you will.
Diluc isn’t amused. “Not here, Kaeya.” He hissed. Kaeya smiles, he isn’t amused either. “If not here then when?” He replies. Thankfully for Diluc, there weren’t any patrons that chose to sit at the counter today. For Kaeya, it’s just an opportunity.
Diluc trades glances with Charles, and the man quickly takes his leave to the back. Diluc glares, “What brought this on?”
Kaeya notes that Diluc hadn’t even answered the question. “It’s a simple question, Diluc.” He bites out, a little frustrated. A little stung.

“Of course I do.” Diluc replies, monotone.
Kaeya stares. Huffs a little laugh, “I see.” He replies bitterly. Not bothering to finish his drink, he stands, “I see.” He says a little louder. “I’ll take my leave now then.”
Ah. He was right. Diluc never said it himself.

How many times has Diluc said ‘I love you’ and not as a yes or no to an answer? Has Diluc ever said it unprompted? Without a push from Kaeya himself?
Was Diluc just entertaining him? But Diluc wasn’t a liar. He answers Kaeya every time. Then why? Why does he feel like crying?

Kaeya needs to sleep. He can already feel tears gathering in his eyes. But he got what he wanted, didn’t he? Diluc said he loved him. So why does it hurt so much?
Diluc is so confused. What’s going on? “Kaeya?” He calls, hesitant.

“It’s no matter. I’ll see you.” Kaeya smiles, all fake. He leaves without a glance back.
Diluc loves him.
Right?
“He loves me.” Kaeya mutters to himself, ignoring the crushing weight on his chest.

Kaeya walks back to his lonely home, and says again, “he loves me.”
At that point, he’s just trying to convince himself. “Diluc loves me.” He whispers, heart in pieces.
