The Existence of a Mother

Can Eva's life be called truly "living"? did she ever exist for the sake of herself?

#07threads #Eva07
Eva is known to use the spider web of red truths when fighting, hurling them at her opponent with great rapidity so they could not have the time to come up with an answer, and this particular way of using the red truth is born out of her own pain and lonely efforts.
When she was fighting with her own son, her particular way of answering (funny maybe to some) touched me deeply. She kept retelling specifically how she spent each day raising him, and it came to my realization that she never spent a day for herself.
Eva literally forsake all of her days for her ideals and raising her children, and we can understand this from the way the narrative went, but George never ignored that, and kept thanking his mother for everything because at this part of the duel appreciation is the answer.
“To wrap your child in happiness, is the greatest education” such powerful words that symbolizes all of Eva's psyche. However obsessive she was, she didn’t think of anything except her child, and how he might be happy in his life, eva literally had nothing else on her mind.
Even when she found the gold, the first thing she screamed was that she was happy for her husband, and now she could leave a vast amount of money to her son, she never thought about herself, not even once, she only thought about happiness for her family.
It was her family, the driving force behind every action she took. Her existence as a mother itself was at stake, something Rosa probably wouldn’t have understood, that Eva wasn’t just greedy, she was betting on her whole existence with every move she took.
We then reach the defining moment of eva’s life, a true assessment for eva’s life and goals, because even if there were other mothers during the story, eva was the only one that saw being a mother as a challenge that she should overcome at the cost of her own life.
That’s what Ange failed to understand, Eva didn’t raise ange out of the goodness of her heart, it was the opposite. Children are eva’s whole identity, everything ange said was an attack on eva’s core, her choosing a bad future was a proclamation of failure on her mother’s part.
How far must we go to understand EVA? In every moment the author did such a powerful portrayal of the challenges of life, that takes many factors into account: age, money, ideals, time, love, anger, stress, even the shounen fights in umineko are meaningful and amazing.
Eva spent her whole life thinking only about her two children, until the moment of death there was nothing on her mind but leaving a happy future for both of them. Whatever ange chooses, this will mark the ending of Eva's life, and mark her most personal wish realized.
Only then can we say that Eva has truly lived, and fulfilled all of her existence in a true sense of the word. It is true that she was lost in the spiral of mothership and succession, but can we ever hate her for doing so? Can we ever really understand our mothers even in death?
