I was thinking about some ways to represent our progress towards full covid-19 vaccination and herd immunity.

An idea I had was to imagine a drive from Cape Reinga light house to Wellington airport.

Full vaccination (10 million doses) would be arriving at Wellington airport.

But that's not really the goal. Herd immunity is likely from about 70% vaccination. On our journey that would be roughly the middle of the Desert Road.

So where are we up to? Well, we've gotten just past the turn off to Tapotupotu Beach.

However, zoomed out its a bit less impressive. We're currently 4 minutes into our 14 hour journey to Wellington (or 10 hours to the Desert Road.

We still have a long way to go. I'll update this every week or so.
