[An analysis on my beloved character, Matou Sakura]
Sakura was separated from the Tohsaka family at a very early age. Being alone and tortured by a new unknown family, she only had a wish, for her sister Rin to save her. Which proves how much she has always loved her,she didn't ask for her father nor mother nor Kariya.
She wanted the sister to whom she was close with to come and save her,but she didn't. She could have lived normally and become a very talented magus, maybe even better than Rin. Instead she had to accept her current life leading to her thinking she isn't worth saving.
A part of Sakura's character that is rarely talked about is when she met Shirou. Something that is forgotten is that Sakura didn't naturally grow up as a kind person. She admitted herself before meeting Shirou that she was a bad girl, hoping he would fail his jumps.
However, thanks to Shirou's determination to keep trying something that is meaningless, she regained what she lost, the hope to regain a better and normal life. When Shirou hurt his arm after quitting the archery club, she saw the opportunity to be useful for him.
As someone who always got treated like trash by her entire family, she wanted to at least be useful to the boy she loves. Learning how to do the house chores is both a beautiful way to express her love and a way to say,I can be useful to you,so please let me stay by your side.
Shirou isn't a white knight and Sakura is not a damsel in distress.Shirou is meant to be her mental support to keep her from returning to her old cold self. Despite the horrible things Shinji did to her,she still try to take care of him,to find the good in him.
She could have easily use Rider to kill her brother and grand-father right away or stay forever at Shirou's house and be protected but she didn't.She was satisfied with the way things are because she didn't want to be a burden to others by asking for help.
Acting shy and quiet comes from the way she sees herself. She always feels inferior to others even when she is not as a result of the way she was treated in her childhood. Just trying to be better at cooking than Shirou is enough to bring her happiness.
The rain scene is the most important in the entire heaven's feel route. Sakura finally opens her chest to Shirou. Telling him that she is an impure girl, who tried to kill herself and is only a burden to others, asking,do you still want to help a girl like me ?
That the image of the kind hearted Sakura living with him up until now is an act she was ready to throw away the second she becomes a problem for him.Shirou hugging her is his way to tell her that it's alright to stay, she won't be a burden because he himself wants to save her.
She finally has someone to accept her for who she is , that she can be honest to. To learn that what happened in the past is not a reason to throw away her present self because there is someone ready to betray his own ideals for you.
And admit that deep down, even if she wanted to, she can't bring herself to runaway from the Emiya household. I love Sakura's story because it uses the love theme in such a heart-warming way.
Sakura was always bound by her past, thinking that people only cared about her body, that the hero of justice that Shirou dreams to be woud not want a tainted girl at her side. But he didn't hesitate one second to still hug and love her,the kind-hearted girl that she is.
So while some of you are still stuck comparing Sakura to Rin, I will enjoy watching HF3 admiring my wife and her beloved sister :D
