There's a lot of controversy around the battle cry to "Defund the Police" that arose from the Goerge Floyd murder & the ugly history of police abuses. 1/

I get a lot of pushback from a both right-leaning commentators & middle of the road liberals whenever this topic comes up & I state my position. 2/
I'm influenced by the years in my youth, subject to abuse myself, & witnessing far worse inflicted by the LAPD on dirty hippie girls like me, citizens of the Barrio of East LA where I lived, & my later proximity to Compton & South Central. 3/
I lost a dear friend, knifed on the street, the murder of a beautiful trans person never investigated bc, "she was hustling & those things happen." 4/
I could list a litany of incidents, the first noticed by the world, when Rodney King was beaten. Only remarkable for the taping & attention & subsequent affirmation that no consequences exist for police brutality. 5/
I moved to Portland, home of one of the oldest & most powerful police unions in the nation. If anyone needs, I'm happy to provide documentation of the abuse & murders of black citizens & the mentally ill in this lily white town. Without consequences. 6/
We all had the opportunity to bear witness to the gassing, beating & abuse of mostly peaceful demonstrators all summer & fall here in town. Concurrant to the open collaboration & protection of the various alt-right militias & groups like Proud Boys & Oathkeepers. 7/
