[thread] about song minjae (pluma) on high school rapper 4 episode 6 and mnet’s “evil editing” - the fuller picture

we cannot share the full clip from hsr4 as we do not own the copyright to share, but we will translate most of it via screenshots. this is not a full transcript and only serves to give an idea of how the episode went.

in hsr4 ep 6:

during team h1ghr music’s interim check for the team mission, it was revealed that pluma shared an ig story to his close friends list where he spoiled the existence of the team mission song + the fact that he was in team h1ghr music. the spoiler was then leaked.

woogie: “there was an incident where minjae shared a spoiler, causing his team placement (team h1ghr music) to get leaked. he made this mistake, but then it didn’t affect us in any way ...”

the team members were initially very excited and lively when the mentors first revealed the mission beat, but here in this interim check (where they share the verses they wrote etc.) the vibe became very stiff and awkward due to the spoiler leak incident.

anyway, afterwards team h1ghr music lost to team ambition, and one rapper was to be eliminated from the losing team.

when it was time to announce who would be eliminated, team h1ghr music had a very difficult time choosing. they noted that all of the team members did well, and they couldn’t just decide who to eliminate. woogie also asked for one minute to discuss.

*cue insert that describes how the team members grew close to each other over the time they spent together, making it hard to eliminate someone*

the mentors finally decided they would eliminate pluma. when asked if he had any last words, pluma said he wanted to hear the mentors’ comments first (to hear the reason behind the decision).

with woogie out of words to say, ph-1 explained how they came to make this decision.

separately speaking to the staff (interview in studio) jay park commented “after all, this was a team mission. and minjae was the eldest team member. i had hoped he could better lead the team like an older sibling.”

the following is the sequence of scenes which pluma was criticised for. please note that these scenes were cut and put together by mnet; they lack context and and by no means represent the full story.

pluma: i’m telling you (kim dahyeon) with all seriousness, you’ve really done your best already

(sounded like he insinuated that dahyeon should get eliminated/go home - dahyeon was previously shown struggling to recall his lyrics)

pluma was heard telling park hyeonjin “you’re sitting like a mentally ill person right now” - this scene was shown without any subtitles

hyeonjin: i don’t feel good cus i screwed up my lyrics
pluma: if you& #39;re being like this and then our team wins, i& #39;m gonna beat you up

dahyeon: our opponents said we were so cool when they saw us, so-
pluma: uh-huh, stop talking already
dahyeon: i’m sorry

this scene then cut to jay park’s face and he seemed to look slightly uncomfortable(?)

pluma’s last words on hsr4:

“it’s such a shame that i couldn’t do much before i (got eliminated). i believe this marks a new beginning for me, so moving forward i’ll do my best to be a greater person.”

staff: why do you think you got eliminated?
pluma: i’m not sure

staff: what was the most disappointing part of today’s performance?
pluma: none of it was disappointing

pluma went live on ig to speak about the incident as soon as the episode finished airing; he spoke in fragmented lines and seemed to struggle to collect his thoughts

following the backlash, team h1ghr music mentors and contestants alike posted messages on their ig stories

pluma then wrote an official apology on his ig story.

this should be the final update, with more clarifications and context from pluma’s ig live last saturday night. people really nitpicked on every single scene with him in it, so we’re adding additional screenshots of the episode for better context

pluma’s ig live exactly one day after episode 6 aired; at the beginning he mentioned the hate he’s received including personal attacks, death threats and sexual harassment

pluma was picked on for lying down in that manner especially in front of his mentors who are older and more senior in the industry, which was seen as “being impolite” ... (cont.)

and this is pluma’s explanation about him lying down in their waiting room (which was already explained in his deleted ig story)

in this scene, the team finished their rehearsals when pluma was seen provoking their opponent team waymo’s mentors changmo and way ched by saying “team waymo go home”. soundbite was repeated three times consecutively during the scene

pluma clarified that it was the show’s writer who encouraged them to say/do more provoking things to their opponents. “team waymo go home” is also a lyric from park hyeonjin’s verse in their song

this was the scene after the team did their performance. hyeonjin was blaming himself over the mistake he made + the special judges didn’t have positive responses about their performance.

pluma clarifies that there was more to that scene than what was shown; mnet had cut out the second half of his sentence (which made his words come off as “rude”)

pluma clarified that he had said much more on stage that day, but none of it was aired; he actually mentioned the burden and the pressure he felt as a repeat contestant, and his depression had worsened

source unconfirmed, but it was said that pluma needed some time to collect his thoughts before he spoke his last words. that was why he had asked the mentors to speak first, but that was also cut out from the episode
