The Twilight that is my Family (Long thread)

Why is character X in Umineko unmemorable, shallow, insignificant, etc..

#07threads #Beatrice07 #Ange07 #Krauss07 #Twilight07
First of all, Umineko characters are not written to be interesting, they are written to be real. In fact, you are not supposed to get attached to any of the characters unless you understand the direction of the author.
This is somehow an attack on society norms. you wake up and you hear about strangers being killed in an accident, you probably wouldn't care since you didn’t know any of these people beforehand.
The author knew that too well (even referenced the same subject again in ciconia) and because he knew that the world won’t look at the lost family with more loving eyes, he decided to write this story.
Each of the characters is written as a key to understanding the heart of the story. Everyone is well written for its own purpose, what the author wanted to convey to the readers.
That's why Beatrice's role is important, from her eyes we can totally change our views of people whom we don't know and don't care about, and help them leave a beautiful mark on the world they left too soon.
Also most of the details of the characters are scattered for making a mystery and encouraging active reading, if u dont think and make thematic parallels they are gonna stay shallow all the time.
All of the details regarding each character is well portrayed in the first two episodes, you just didn’t feel anything for them, and they died before you could even know them or feel for them, this is the problem.
Lets take for example Ushirmoiya Krauss, he was written in episodes 1-5 from two different perspectives according to the author’s intention. He has important info to convey regarding the mystery.
Seeing that Krauss doesn't know about his wife's feelings, it can make you understand how much the weight of succession is severe on him and the amount of stress the money problems caused not only to him but each of the siblings.
You are supposed to understand someone's love for his wife, yet his inability to change who he is or his views. He knows he had wrong views regarding how he treated Eva, but he can't do anything about it anymore.
A guy who treated his sister like shit for half his life probably wouldnt understand his wife's suffering in the best sense, he may not even be a sexist, but he became this way because of the weight of responsibility.
You are supposed to follow his child’s view of him in alliance during the succession thest. He is deep according to the POV you decided to think from. You can't get emotionally attached to him unless you think, but don’t get me wrong.
This is not to forgive any of them, it's just to understand how heavy was the atmosphere inside the Ushiromiya mansion, a place that no longer exists, and to show you the reader - why you should care about that.
Ushriomiya krauss may be even a deeper character than what i just told, but other information regarding his life is not needed as the story must not contain any excess information according to vandine rules.
In doing so, the author’s intention was achieved, and they allowed them to leave a good mark on the world and on their last surviving relative’s heart, despite their sad ending moments.
The world treats the ushiromiya family like an entertainment show, but they are a normal family with their own severe challenges and unrealized dreams, of course no one will be able to understand, except one.
That’s why everyone tells Ange to learn from them and forsake obligations. The author finally conveyed all the lost years Ange didn’t spend with her family, and turned their life into something of value.
Even if failure is not something to be talked about, we can learn from it and move forward. The kindness of the writing is very overflowing, but you have to do your own part to realize all the love.
“No Matter how hard you try to deny it, I will understand my own family. Their Regrets, their pain, their wishes, the true form hidden behind a disheartening truth. Right Here, they are all alive.”
Also another awesome thematic parallel between Yasu and Ange, the former had the Magic key but no family to love, while the latter had been raised by a family but refrained from using the key to see it.
In that sense, all of umineko’s characters, even the fantasy beings are deep, and real, because it was the author’s intention to achieve just that. I might write about the non-obvious ones at a later time.
