I’d like to talk about how black folk are more undiagnosed with ADHD than you think.
A 70% underdiagnosis than their own white counterparts.

So that means someone that you love, work with, see in class, etc has undiagnosed and untreated ADHD and/or other cognitive disorders.

As someone who has been recently diagnosed with ADHD/ASD, I have time today.
The medical industry has never been friends with black people, and so has the education system.

Those younger than 17 are at a very prime and important age to be evaluated for ADHD as recommended by their teachers.
Teachers due to racial bias would rather suspend the black girl for talking too much rather than interrogate why.

Would rather give detention to the black boy for being loud.

Would rather humiliate the black child for not paying attention in class rather than interrogate why.
The poster child for ADHD is an impulsive white boy—and that’s what educators and *professionals* look for when evaluating children (and adults), rather than acknowledging how ADHD falls under 3 types and is a spectrum.
ADHD is not a “boy disease”

Girls and others of marginalized genders are extremely under-diagnosed, because it shows differently.

And if you’re black and adding the pressure of your own community and family who don’t believe in mental health?

Well you gotta fend for yourself.
I urge you to be kind to others. Because a lot of people in our community are out here with no accessibility for diagnosis on mood/cognitive disorders.

And when we try to get them done, nobody believes our symptoms. I urge you to advocate for yourself.
Those with ADHD/ASD can suffer from depression and anxiety due to a lack of treatment & lack of support in a neurotypical world.

If you believe there is something wrong don’t stop till you get the answers you need. And if you can’t, surround yourself with people that understand.
I know this is already long thread and I could definitely write more. But some of y’all also have ADHD so I’m not gonna do that to y’all.

But to everybody else, we start tomorrow morning sharp 😂
Helpful Video that I love:
I also urge you all to release stigma regarding ADHD stimulant medications. It doesn’t help.

With the right treatment plan, psychiatrist, and dosage it can become a successful way for someone to be able to support themselves.
