Let’s chat for a second about “sex addiction” as a scapegoat for men being murderers/rapists/cheaters/ etc. Can we stop saying it as if it’s an excuse? Now I’m sure there is a fraction of the population who actually has real, clinical sex addiction - no argument there
But there is also a population of - mostly Christian- repressed men who use it as an excuse for reprehensible acts. “I’ll go to treatment” “it’s not my fault it’s an addiction” I actually think it’s this evangelical thing where we don’t allow Christian men to explore sexuality
...safely. There are so many kids that are told if they masturbate, look at women’s pictures, have sexual thoughts, etc that they’ll go to hell. And then suddenly they’re in a courtship and are walking down the aisle usually never having held hands, hugged or kissed anyone
And they’re supposed to go from that to sex on their wedding night? As if a light switch turns on and they suddenly have healthy sexuality after being told their entire lives that they’ll go to hell for as much as thinking about it? It’s so unhealthy it’s mind boggling
It’s no wonder that they think they’re “sex addicts” after a lifetime of repression, guilt, shame and none sense. Just so sad ultimately because it’s unnecessary.
