As European countries pull the AZ vaccine because about 1 millionth of the recipients developed a condition that happens in more than 1 in a million average people, now would be a good time to learn about why there's a vaccine for Lyme disease but you can't get it.
There's an excellent podcast from @nhpr called Patient Zero. It boils down to the fact that there was a rheumatoid arthritis scare related to the Lyme vaccine around the same time that "vaccines cause autism" became trendy. So now you can't get it.
Not because it's unsafe, but simply because the manufacturer doesn't want to go through the hassle of fighting a public perception that the vaccine causes some unrelated and unlinked symptom. .
Vaccines are safe, vaccines save lives, and as an outdoorsy person, I wish I could get one for Lyme disease. Here's hoping the AZ Covid vaccine is widely available again soon alongside other good vaccines including Pfizer, Moderna, and J&J.
