As European countries pull the AZ vaccine because about 1 millionth of the recipients developed a condition that happens in more than 1 in a million average people, now would be a good time to learn about why there& #39;s a vaccine for Lyme disease but you can& #39;t get it.
There& #39;s an excellent podcast from @nhpr called Patient Zero. It boils down to the fact that there was a rheumatoid arthritis scare related to the Lyme vaccine around the same time that "vaccines cause autism" became trendy. So now you can& #39;t get it.
Not because it& #39;s unsafe, but simply because the manufacturer doesn& #39;t want to go through the hassle of fighting a public perception that the vaccine causes some unrelated and unlinked symptom. .
Vaccines are safe, vaccines save lives, and as an outdoorsy person, I wish I could get one for Lyme disease. Here& #39;s hoping the AZ Covid vaccine is widely available again soon alongside other good vaccines including Pfizer, Moderna, and J&J.
