How to Write an Engaging Tweet

(Rules from a ghostwriter that gets paid $2,000 to write 4 tweets a day)

Thread:
I’m a ghostwriter for accounts you probably already know (and which I’m not legally allowed to disclose).

From 500 to over 30 thousand followers, me and my team are in your timeline WAY more than you think.

Some proof before we get into what you’re here for:
How do you gain 1,100 followers a week organically?

How do you get 3 thousand likes with a 10 word sentence?

How did one tweet make $1,140 in revenue?

Let’s talk Twitter.
There are 3 ways to tweet:

1. Engagement (likes, comments and retweets)

2. Followers

3. Sales (Products and services)

This thread will be about engagement:
Engagement = influence.

I have friends on Twitter with more influence than pastors and politicians.

Engagement is what allows you to tweet an idea and instantly plug it into other people’s minds.

Key word: minds.
People think Twitter is about writing.

Some of it is, but you’re missing the point.

Twitter isn’t about writing, it’s about ideas.

Think about your favorite account.

Do you like them because they write well?

Or because they have ideas you haven't thought about before?
Say you read a great tweet, over 1000 likes.

You try to figure out why it worked so you can do it too.

-Is it a list?
-Is it wordplay?
-Is it an image?
-Is it a question?

You try it and what happens?

You only get 5 likes.

In this thread we'll analyze why you failed.
My writing philosophy:

Writing isn’t good because it’s well written.

Writing is good because it has an idea behind it.

--

You thought that by replicating the way something's written you can replicate engagement.

Big mistake.

Let me prove it w/ 3 examples:
When I posted this, I made a mistake.

I thought the tweet did well because of how it was written.

And so I posted a bunch of weak men vs strong men tweets.

And they bombed.

Why?
Because I focused on the FORMAT and not on the IDEA.

Instead of asking yourself: How is this tweet presented?

(Lists, questions, images, wordplay, formats)

Ask yourself: What EMOTION is this tweet provoking in me?
That tweet focused on how part of growing is accepting the world doesn’t care about you.

Emotion: the feeling of pride that comes from being strong.

Example #2:
I was tempted to think this was a “List with a punchline at the end” kind of tweet.

But it’s more than that.

Try to identify the emotion behind this tweet:
If you answered something around “Pride”

Congratulations,

You’re wrong.

This tweet is about isolation and validation.
When you improve in all areas of life, you feel lonely because 99% of people are losers that want to drag you down.

This tweet validated your self image (everyone thinks they’re above average) and justified loneliness in that you’re actively improving yourself.
Lists have nothing do to with it.

Wordplay has nothing to do with it.

It's the idea behind a tweet that makes it good, not the way it's written.

Which leads us to our last example.

Try to find the relatable emotion behind this one:
If you answered something around “Been there, done that”, "I know someone like that", "That's so true"

Congratulations,

You’re right.

We’re all guilty of telling people our goals.

And because it’s a relatable emotion, we share the tweet.
You're not tweeting to the algorithm, you're tweeting to people.

People can see through formats and wordplay, but ideas are immortal.

This thread in one sentence:

Don’t focus on how a tweet is written, focus on which emotion it evokes in you.
I gave you free game on me.

And I’m just 1 account.

You’ll be surprised at how easy Twitter becomes when you do.
