HAVE ARSENAL SIMPLY BEEN UNLUCKY THIS SEASON? A THREAD OF ALL THE MAJOR DECISIONS TO HAVE GONE AGAINST ARSENAL THIS SEASON
Out of our 11 losses, a whooping 8 have been lost by 1 goal. That’s extremely unlucky. Burnley, Everton, Leiceister, Wolves, Aston Villa and so on. Losses that could have easily been wins or at least draws.
Discipline has also been an issue and it is not the coach’s fault that Pepe, Xhaka, Leno and Luiz chose to momentarily become daft. All of the red cards were easily avoidable. Only exception was Gabriel Maghalaes red against Everton.
We have gone on to take only two points from a possible 12 in those games we went a man down.
Think of this what u will https://twitter.com/ESPNFC/status/1361299227285082117

22nd November: Leeds’ Liam Cooper blocks goalbound effort with raised arm. VAR checks. No penalty given. Arsenal draw 0-0.
30th January: Bruno Fernandes rakes studs down Granit Xhaka’s Achilles. Incident overlooked. Arsenal go on to draw 0-0.
2nd February: David Luiz red carded for ‘challenge’ on Willian Jose. VAR backs decision. Arsenal go on to lose 2-1.
6th February: Bukayo Saka adjudged to have been fouled by last man Ezri Konsa. Yellow card given. Arsenal go on to lose 1-0.
6th February: Emi Martinez pulls Alexandre Lacazette to ground in Aston Villa penalty area. Free-kick awarded to Villa.
14th February: Liam Cooper clashes with Bukayo Saka in Arsenal box. Penalty awarded. Overturned by VAR. Arsenal go on to win 4-2.
6th March: Erik Pieters handles from Nicolas Pepe in the Burnley box. Incident checked. No penalty awarded. Arsenal go on to draw 1-1.
Football can sometimes be a game of blind luck and as far as luck goes, we have not been a very lucky team at all. In fact, we have been unfortunate more than most this season.
This is the context to our season. This is part of why we are struggling to get up the table. We have literally lost points to things other than how well we are playing. But as long as Arteta fixes the attack permanently,
which I believe he can and will with more balanced recruitment, we should return back to Champions League contention in no time.
