Thread about the amount of hard work Jungkook puts as the main vocalist of BTS.
Jungkook has been assigned as BTS’ main vocalist ever since he was 15 years old. Back in the days Jungkook was a raw diamond. He was a born singer with a lot of potential, and in all these years he grew into the phenomenal singer he is today.
The main vocalist is often the one who gets the chorus, while also in charge of highnotes and adlibs.
But this isn’t all there is, cause behind this role there is an immense pressure. This role carries a lot of expectations requiring him to sing perfect.
Despite that, Jungkook is actually redefining what it means to be a main vocalist. KMA-music critic Kim Yoonha stated that he isn’t just focusing on highnotes or showing off. But rather his sentimental voice with strong power bringing a differentiation when it comes in BTS music.
Jungkook puts a lot of thought into his voice colour, but also his technique. He has taken a few vocal lessons but also teaches himself what the best way is for his voice. He is very particular and knows exactly what he wants.
Despite being the main vocalist of BTS, Jungkook stated that he never saw the others as competition in this Book Review by Kim Youngdae. Jungkook doesn’t put meaning on a ‘label’ but rather on the skill behind it.
In the next few examples it’s evident that Jungkook is not only focused on improving himself but also on how to help the other members the best way. It’s a testament to BTS’ great relationship with each other, but also Jungkook’s attitude when it comes to approaching his role.
Jungkook also mostly knows every single part of a song. Back in 2018 Namjoon went to ask help about his rap part from Jungkook. Jin then stated that Jungkook knows everything and even if you ask him your part he knows.
It is to no surprise that’s it’s often Jungkook who backs the other members up. Here is an example of how he helped Jimin during the concert. Jimin was sick and asked for Jungkook to back him up.
Jungkook doesn’t only cover for vocal line members, he also does it for rap line members like when Namjoon was absent during a run performance.
To put the most recent example is Jungkook rapping Yoongi’s part during Best Of Me.
Further on, it’s a known fact that Jungkook is credited in almost every song of BTS when it comes to chorus credit or backing vocal. It basically means that his voice is being used as an instrument in a song.
Jungkook himself also stated that he is a chorus specialist, and that he has to mix the chorus and melodies. It’s one of his many responsibilities and it shows why he is credited in almost every song cause it’s a lot of hard work.
Not only when it comes to chorus credits and mixing, Jungkook also does a lot of layering and harmonies. Because of his musicality and well trained ear he is able to make a lot of variety of harmonies.
With credits to @jeonfolders for this beautiful compilation that showcases Jungkook’s backing vocal in Life Goes On. You see that he is all over the song. Because of him there is this rich texture and depth to BTS’ songs.
Even in the hidden vocal in Your Eyes Tell he is doing the backing vocal to all the parts. It’s also the reason why he knows every single part and why the members usually go to him when they don’t know their part.
To round this topic off, here is a compilation of his hidden vocals by @loopkook. Just think about all the extra studio hours Jungkook has to make for each and every song.
It’s also a known fact that Jungkook does most of the guides, whether it be for a simple song as the one in In The Soop, or BTS songs like Spring Day to even some mixtapes of members.
The reason why he probably gets to do a lot of these guides is because Jungkook has the ability to absorb the producers view very well. Producer Jinbo that worked with them spoke about how Jungkook impressed him a lot.
Further on in Burn The Stage Namjoon stated his concern when it was uncertain whether Jungkook was able to perform. He specifically said that because Jungkook is their main vocalist, it will be a lot of damage since there is no replacement.
Even other members time and time again whether it be fun or serious circumstances mentioned Jungkook as the main vocalist. The examples are countless.
Being main vocalist brings a lot of pressure. From always expected to sound amazing live, to doing a lot of extra work, especially when it comes to studio hours. It’s hard work that Jungkook has been doing ever since he was 15 and it deserves all the respect and recognition.
Being the main vocalist isn’t sunshine and rainbows like a lot claim it to be. It’s a responsibility, and there is a very good reason why the members, music critics and everyone else admire and respect Jungkook.
