A lot of young folk in Shetland don't have a lot of pride in where they come from which I feel is a shame, I still struggle with it as I was bullied for my accent and dialect by folk from mainland Scotland and England. So I'm making a thread of reasons to be proud of Shetland. ❤️
We have some beautiful views
The northern lights, locally known as the Mirrie Dancers or Aurora. On a clear night you can see the stars clearly and occasionally you see the Mirrie Dancers.

Our Viking History. We were captured by Danish Vikings who then mixed with the Picts who'd been living here, they brought Paganism, Old Norse, and many traditions. Our History in general.
Up Helly Aa or as the BBC insist on calling it, the Viking Fire Festival. Up Helly Aa is an annual event that happens all over Shetland. Different parts of Shetland have different Jarl squads, a Jarl is chosen by his predecessor and he chooses a group of people to be his squad.
Shetland Dialect. It's dying out and being watered down as we haven't been allowed to teach it in schools and many teachers flight on you for speaking it. There's hope that people will stop knapping for the sake of those that take the piss.
Our mythical creature's
We've got the friendly Wulver who guides the lost and feeds the poor. The Njuggl that'll take a hold of you and drown you. The mischievous Trowies that'll steal you away and Selkies, folk that turn into seals.
