THREAD REBUTTING #GodhraMassacre THEORY

The #Godhra train incident is what most reports about the violence in Gujrat point to as the starting point for the barbarism and massacre of Muslims that followed.

Various committees were constituted to probe into the incident.

Most interesting are the findings of forensic experts based on an on-the-spot inspection and reconstruction of the incident. Findings of FSL rebutted the theory of the coach being set afire by an angry mob, which had mysteriously collected outside the Godhra railway station.

Key findings of the Forensic Studies Laboratory (FSL) -

The height of the coach windows from ground level at the crime spot was found to be seven feet, which made throwing of inflammable liquid using a bucket or jerrycan next to impossible.

The experts tried this from a three-feet elevation, some 14 feet away from where the coach was burnt. Hardly 10-15 per cent of the water used for the purpose got inside the coach, the rest spilling over to the tracks.

The experts poured nearly 60 litres of water inside the coach and found none of it spilling over from the open door or reaching the toilets.

The report concluded that the coach was set afire by someone “standing in the passage of the compartment near seat number 72"

using a container. About 60 litres of inflammable liquid has been poured and then a fire has been started in the bogie

The train was almost a Rambhakt special and each compartment was full of people from a particular area or belonging to a particular group

within the Sangh parivar, all of who would have been known to each other. It is therefore extremely implausible that a perfect stranger would have been able to splash the petrol and set it alight and then escape.

Also the train was stopped by pulling the emergency chain and that can only be from inside.

Consequently the theory that it was an ISI cell or a group who boarded the train after it was stopped that had carried out the carnage becomes extremely difficult to sustain.

Under some circumstances, coach S6 should have caught fire from outside, the fire engulfing it from below, with the inflammable liquid pooled around the tracks.
But the inspection of the tracks and burning pattern on the exterior

of coach S6 which had no burn marks below the window level—confirm that the inflammable liquid did not come from outside.

Three doors of the coach were open at the time of the incident. This again is at variance with the statement that all doors had been bolted from inside. All windows were closed. There was no attempt to break the window grills from outside.

The harassment and intimidation of the mostly Muslim hawkers at Godhra railway station was deliberate and aimed at provoking an agitated response.But it is hard to believe that a petty harassment in itself would have provoked such a disproportionate reaction as torching a train

Justice U.C Banerjee Committee has also refuted 'petrol theory' and 'miscreant activity theory' and called them "absurd" (which cost him the elevation of his son Amitesh Banerjee to the Calcutta High Court bench)

Even if the Sabarmati Express was not set on fire, the massacre would have occurred for some other reason. The scale and manner in which MUSLIMS were killed only proves that Godhra was merely an excuse to start the pogrom.
