The King George V class were the most modern British battleships of the Second World War.

They are perhaps best known for their actions against Bismarck in 1941 and Scharnhorst in 1943, as well as the sinking of Prince of Wales in December 1941.

However, they have been described as "the weakest battleships completed by any of the belligerent nations during the Second World War era"

I feel this does the design a grave misservice and is based upon some very faulty analysis and understanding of the ships. (2/x)
Thus, I have decided to do a series of threads looking at the design, identifying the strengths and weaknesses of it, looking at the rationale behind the design choices, and putting it into some context.
