blue & grey stage design at mtv unplugged 2021 đź’
taehyung himself said that 'blue' resembles depression for him just like 'grey' resembles sadness.
in this stage we are in a relatively narrow but long room. at the end awaits a window which fills out the whole side of this particular end of the room. even though the rooms looks spacious, it makes you feel constricted.
the walls are a grey concrete/cement-looking cover of sadness which makes you feel cold just when you look at it. not to mention when you're actually in there.
the room is filled with blue flowers and bushes of grass. a sea of depression we see the seven walk through throughout their performance. "sheltered" by the cover of grey sadness. the grass & flowers grown very high, make it hard to go through them.
but within this sea of depression and sadness we can see lights peaking out of the high bushes of grass and flowers. also a path - illuminated by the sunrays shining through the window - where they made room for us to walk on. to walk through it.
they are leaning against the cold walls of sadness, shielding, protecting us, guiding us from pain & sadness through this cold room. it's as if they became one of the lights that peak through the bushes - "we're here, it's okay, you're not alone, we go through this as well."
but they're not just protecting us, they are feeling with us. it's a sign that they feel the same pain we feel, they go through depression and sadness we do. of course all our pain has different sources, heights & weights, but what i see here is a promise that we are not alone.
they acknowledge the pain and ask us to go through the pain, like them.

the melodious part comes on, nobody sings, you just listen to the melody of this song which i will forever refer to as 'healing part'. where you just feel through all this pain in a warm embrace of notes.
at the end we are greeted just like we were welcomed at the beginning. taehyung stands in front of the window, behind him rays of sunshine shining through it, reassuring us that there's always light at the end of the tunnel.
singing his last part of the song "i now fall asleep at dawn, good night".
which is a kind of sad ending to it when you consider taehyung couldn't sleep the whole night when he went through with depression, sadness and helplessness.
but even then, even when standing in this cold room, he seems to be in a embrace of sunshine. dawn is providing him with sun again so he can finally find some sleep and warmth in a cold and painful surrounding.
blue & grey is not just a sad song talking about depression and sadness. it's their way of telling us that they go through it as well as we do.
it's not a promise for "it will end", "it will get better", it's a promise for "your feelings are valid".
