High School x Mecha
Welcome to Union Academy, the training grounds for all future leaders of the Union, the government that rules over the all the planets under humanity's domain. As such, the Academy is a very powerful and influential faction on its own.
The players, like in all HS anime, had to make their characters part of a club to survive at Union Academy. They chose to make a Kendo club. We alternate in structure between activities at the school, club events, picking what classes their pilots/students attend.
Then, similar to Fire Emblem 3 Houses, at the end of the month, the party/club goes on a mission, dealing with something that the Student council has picked. The start of our campaign was a VR simulation, an entrance exam.
Our first mission has beed vs a faction called the Red Legion. The Red Legion opposes Union's expansion into the Haven system, which means they oppose Union Academy. Normally they stick to their own but started to encroach towards the academy so the party has to drive them back.
The first part of the mission had the part assaulting the Red Legion's forward outpost. This went... poorly for the Kendo club. The Kendo club failed to take the outpost and things were looking dire for them so they had to pull back. This wasn't the end of the mission though->
Unfortunately, the Red Legion now knew Union Academy was coming and the club had to pick their next target, to go for the Relay comms to cut off their ability to call in help or go for the warehouse, where intelligence reports showed they were building a massive prototype mech.
The party picked the Relay comms first, and had to escort a bomb into the relay center to take it out. This was a very hard fight but they prevailed (at what cost?). In a desperate push on the last turn, they managed to complete the mission but lost 2 mechs in the process.
The next part was to go to the warehouse to take out their facilities and destroy the prototype mech. With support from the Bomber club, the party breached through the outer wall of the Red Legion fort and got to the warehouse where they prepared for a fight.
As an aside from the mission, this month for Valentines, the students were able to compete in 1v1s or small team fights in the Lover's Arena. It was just a small fun mini event, and you could get bonuses to use on future missions. One day we will have a full tournament arc.
Its been super fun prepping this game and honestly some of the most work ive put into a game but its been worth it. One thing in particular, tho I have no clue if they are actually useful, has been making the sitrep images before the session.
Also, having players that are artists as well is definitely awesome. Some of the players have drawn some groups shots of our party. Art by @EfluentS , @half_s_ and @roastbamby in order. ( go check them out, they are cool people)
I'll write more on this thread later- lunch time.
