For a "region" that is understudied scientifically, female private parts are invasively "operated on" thru aesthetics.
Waxing, shaving, lasering, bleaching, perfuming etc all of this done on an area that is hugely understudied and quite mysterious to alot of women themselves . it is lowkey risky .
Not to forget how delicate it is, im just ... "surpised" on how it is so normalized to play with it like this.
Remember the day i went off about how female sexual pleasure is ignored. I wonder if the constant monitoring of the private parts thru all of these practices could be a factor. https://mobile.twitter.com/Rosyrosepetalia/status/1360185321321824256
Physically speaking, the constant pulling of hair for example temper the sensitivity of that area, making it pretty much desinsitized.
We all know how much the first time waxing hurts, then ... it doesnt as much. Its not that it got easier; in reality the skin became numb.
The hair itself is essential for sensation. Hair functions like ... receptors
Each time the hair is removed (esp with wax or laser), its density gets reduced; it grows finer and thiner.
Im afraid to say that this lessen sensitivity as well .
I wonder if this plays a role in a women's responce to touch/ability to be aroused/reach orgasms.
But also from a psychological perspective, the performativity of arousal/sexuality that is literally required of women might also reduces their enjoyment.
Private parts "beautification" is a part of that performativity. Alot of women are self conscious about their lady parts and it can consume them.
Wondering if there is "hair they missed out", if it smells "good", if it "feels good" etc these are questions someone ask if they are in display to be enjoyed.
You know the more performativly sexual you seem, the less sexual you are. And most men do have this expectation of a woman to "put on a show". https://mobile.twitter.com/Rosyrosepetalia/status/1363425109508259841
And i can see this in other areas in my life. I knew models who are glamed up while at work, they hate glam outside their jobs, painters who do art for a living refuse to draw outside their work... makin a performence out of something make u hate/unable to do it in other contexts
It makes sense why "sex work is work" slogan is everywhere; because there is some truth to it : sex is a performence women have to do, a sort of labor.
And i see why women feel power when they get paid for it; because it is usually something you do out of "love" or obligation (which are both the same thing under the world we live in)
And they usually get little to no pleasure from it, besides fleeting validation/reassurance that they r desireble (hence they matter) which quickly turns into a sensual/bodily void and hunger (either for real pleasure, or more validation, making them addicts)
It is sad ...
Not only we are denied pleasure, we are given an alternative (to simply be pleasurble) that will further numb us from how our sex lives is pleasure-less.
