so... question.............is there something i missed in the pilot or the movie that i refuse to watch? like... is there a reason why jackson always pronounces it goold instead of go-ah-oold

o’neill doing it i am completely on board with for a variety of reasons, but... daniel is an archaeologist and linguist... and while there’s variation in how the entire cast of characters pronounce it... it’s baffling he doesn’t hit the pronunciation more like teal’c

you know... AN ACTUAL AUTHORITY ON THE SUBJECT LMAO

it stands out in every episode, but perhaps most in holiday... like... it HAS to be an intentional character choice, because when he’s playing ma’chello he pronounces it closer to how sam and teal’c do... in fact thor pronounces it like you’d expect too if memory serves

kind of wondering if it’s a play on “ghoul” or something, which would track given that both jack and daniel have such strong personal reasons to hate the goa’uld but maybe i’m reading into it too much

re serpent’s song: while this did admittedly get me because i’m a freak lol... the way daniel goes from treating apophis like some rando for 95% of the episode and then morphs into whoopsie daisy murder boy for a hot sec is... an interesting writing choice

reminds me of that season one episode where they first go back to chulak and... well... ya know...

there are a lot of what we’re gonna politely refer to as missteps in this show... and i just wish instead of ignoring them when they realized hey that probably wasn’t a cool thing to write that they actually you know devoted at least a scene or two to going hey that was fvckdd

tldr general criticism i realize sam called him out on chulak but also that particular incident was kind of a big deal and really deserved even more discussion than it got

hathor is another example, where the episode events were just brushed off via “oh btw luckily when the effect wears off they don’t remember a thing”

which it’s not totally clear even then if that’s just what the boys told janet or if they really don’t remember... either way, nobody acts like they were remotely affected and it’s honestly fvking bizarre

sure everyone processes trauma differently but.... come on....... i feel like if you’re gonna write a character going through traumatic shit it seems you should be obligated to also deal with how it affects them moving forward..... otherwise it just seems grossly irresponsible

particularly when one of your main characters is so blatantly sexually assaulted during the episode and another violated in an equally horrific manner, BUT DONT WORRY GUYS THEY HAVE NO LASTING TRAUMA

never mind that additional baseline trauma and guilt combo that comes with being mind controlled into turning on your friends and coworkers

that’s not to say the show never addresses trauma, need was good in that respect...the ongoing jolinar/sam plot thread... but... i think that makes it even more infuriating when they brush other stuff like this off KNOWING they can do better

i get it’s also partially a screen time thing, i do, but even a few extra lines here and there or a scene in a later episode where either something similar happens or they’re reminded of the event and talk about it goes a long way

particularly when so regularly dealing with some pretty serious topics

there is the fact that we’re still in the 90s at this point in the show so it’s a little easier to let slide than if they pulled this now but you’re still gonna catch me yelling about it

*it’s also not easy because NO SURPRISES HERE i’ve been skipping around and know they still be pulling some bullshit in the later seasons so makes it all a little harder to let go

guess that’s the beauty of fanfic tho

on a lighter note because i really do love this show to pieces....

it’s honestly my top favorite thing, dwarfed only by daniel introducing himself like that to almost everyone idkw it’s just the cutest dorkiest shit and gives me infinite joy

sam is the one member of SG1 that seems to be capable of doing absolutely nothing wrong....love that for her and love her for that honestly

out of curiosity.... how much time has passed since out of mind and legacy because that’s a lot of really traumatic shit in the span of a few episodes

i mean i’m gonna be honest i know the answer has to be less than a year so the exact number doesn’t really matter it’s still yikes

seen a large portion of legacy already when i started jumping between seasons and it’s a particularly difficult one... but it’s hitting even harder now with more episodes under my belt

it’s also not clear how many days this episode actually takes place over though again idk if it really matters grand scheme

will say that everyone particularly shanks acts the hell out of this situation, but that was kind of a given, these folks are always doing the most with the material and i appreciate the heck outta that

interesting point i noticed during the second viewing is daniel’s initial grasp on the whole matter isn’t far off... he just makes the wrong leap with his “to enter by infiltration” translation since they thought the tablet was of goa’uld origin instead of y’know

hence he assumes it means goa’uld infiltrating not infiltrating the goa’uld... but in his own words that’s why it was a theory and not a proof
