'Hindus lack Unity' is a popular narrative among Hindutvavadis. This (paranoid narrative) is undoubtedly a result of how insular - and consequently, ignorant - the Hindutva movement is. There is no major religion, whose adherents are as united as Hindus.

Just the existence of the Indian Nation-State is sufficient proof of H unity. Divisions due to sect(Sunni-Shia Civil War), ethnicity(Kurd vs Turk, Persian v Arab) & race(Olive/Light Brown North Africans against Sub-Saharan Africans) in the M world are extreme in comparison.

Another popular phrase is '1000 saal ki Ghulami'. But what we had was more akin to approximately 1050 years of relatively successful defensive warfare, followed by successful offensive warfare & reclaiming of lost territories from the West/Central-Asianised ruling-classes.
