Prince Atsumu × pirate Sakusa thoughts

Atsumu is the future prince of Inarizaki kingdom, but he has been kidnapped during a visit to another land.
Contrary to what a lot of people might think, he is actually a smart man. In fact, he gets to steal a knife and free himself
He starts running. The sun has set. He doesn't know the place, but he is sure he is going in the right direction to reach the port.

There's a ship, just one. A pirate ship.

Atsumu assesses the situation: judging by the noise, it seems like the majority of the pirate crew is
having fun, getting drunk in an inn near the port. They're lucky.

Atsumu is too. Because he hears some of them discuss their next destination: Inarizaki.

He takes advantage of the situation to sneak onto the ship. It's dangerous. It truly is. But it's heaven compared to
his other option.

He runs as silently as he can, he goes from dark corner to darker corner. He has always been good at hiding.

Until he bumps into someone. A figure even darker than the shadows Atsumu has been walking inside.

For a few seconds they just look at each other.
Then the man with black hair and pale skin, rended softer by the moonlight draws his saber.

Atsumu does the same with his knife.

He has ti be quick. If he isn't the man might call for help, and Atsumu's chances to get a ride would vanish into thin air.
But there's this thing he heard about pirates: they are too proud.

The man looks at Atsumu like he is the most disgusting thing ever (can't really blame him since Atsumu's shirt and pants are tattered and dirty, but you know, it's not like kidnappers bothered with baths)
"Hasn't anybody ever told ya staring is rude?" Atsumu can't help but provoke.

He knows he has to be quiet, but there is something so annoying about this man's stance, something that makes him want to teach him a lesson.

"Yer lucky I love the attention"
"Hasn't anybody ever told you there are consequences for sneaking into other people's ships?"

Atsumu taps the flat of the blade against his chin, pretending to contemplate "Mhm, not really"

The pirate attacks. He is fast, Atsumu has to admit that. But Atsumu is trained.
He has been training with Aran for years now, be it out of curiosity or to avoud his royal responsibilities (maybe he also loves to show off from time to time).

Atsumu is good both at self-defense and attack, both with weapons and his hands.

He also loves running his mouth.
"Say pirate" he dodges the blow "what consequences are ya talking about?"

He smiles when the man grits his teeth "Death"

Atsumu tilts his head "By your hands? No offense but ya look a little weak to me"

That's how it works: you get under their skin and they will start dancing.
Atsumu is now sure this guy isn't going to ask for help.

And he is good, his for is perfect, but his techinque is still raw, his movements are predictable. And Atsumu might be exhausted and driven by adrenaline alone, but he could never say no to the thrill of the fight.
"What's your name?" Atsumu asks.

"As if I'd tell you"

"Oh come on"

"Why would you want to know?"

"I want to know the names of the people I negotiate with"

"What th-

Atsumu slides his blade under the pirate's chin. Metal now kisses the pulse on the man's neck.

He freezes.
"I propose a deal" Atsumu whispers into his ear, chest pressing against the guy's back "ya preted ya didn't see anything and I don't kill ya"

"And you call it a deal?" He scoffs, Atsumu feels his muscles shift against himself.

"Looks fair to me"

"Check your eyesight, then"
That makes Atsumu chuckle "yer funny"

"And you're stupid"

"Thanks, I try my best"

Then the pirate lets out a sigh "What do you want?"

"Just a ride"

"Where?"

"Inarizaki"

"Give me a reason to help you"

"I'm pointing a knife at your throat"

"You won't kill"

"Ya sure?"
The man then smiles. Atsumu can't see him but he knows he's smiling "I'm Sakusa Kiyoomi, captain of this ship. Killing me wouldn't be a wise choice if you want your ride"

"Don't tempt me, captain"

"What are you going to do now?"

Atsumu ponders for a few seconds.
"Ya know what, I like you, so I'll ofter you another deal"

Sakusa sighs again "I'm all ears"

And it's in his ear Atsumu whispers his new proposal "You give me a ride and, not only I spare yer life, but I also help ya with your...ship things"

"You don't look too good at them"
"And ya don't look like someone in a position to refuse"

"What if I say yes and then I tell my crew to get rid of you"

"That's a risk I'm willing to take"

"Are you a fool?"

"Probably"

"Again" Sakusa stiffens against him "give me a reason to let you on board"
"I already am on board"

"Then a reason to keep you on on board"

Atsumu breathes in, breeze and salty water ticklig his nostrils together with Sakusa's smell. He can't put a name on it.

"I can teach ya how to fight" he says.
"I can fight"

"Do all your fights end like this. If so I have bad news for ya, captain"

"I can fight" he repeats.

"And I can help you become stronger. Ya know, I could have gone for your crew, down there at the inn, I could have slit their throats, one by one.
So tell me, Sakusa Kiyoomi, do you want to be able to protect yer crew or not?"

He feels Sakusa's chest go up and down under his arm. He exhales.

"I want that"

"Then it's a deal"

"It's a deal"

Atsumu let him go.

Sakusa used the back of his hands to clean his shirt from
the imaginary (and literal) dirt Atsumu might have left of him.

"It's a pleasure doing business with ya"

Sakusa scowls "What's your name?"

Atsumu doesn't even hesitate when he says "Oikawa Tooru"

It's the name of a childhood friend, his best friend. He smiles softly
remembering of the day they had that conversation: Oikawa had said "I'll get offended if you don't fool other people using my name". Oikawa would be proud of him. Atsumu thinks about how he'll react after he tells him this story.

Then Sakusa's voice brings him back to reality.
"Well then, welcome on board Oikawa Tooru"
Will i ever continue this? We'll find out in a few months probably
Also do i care about typos and tense inconsistency? NO. I AM TIRED.
GRRRR WE UPDATING THIS
Sakusa keeps looking at him.

Atsumu feels his dark green eyes on his back.

He feels them as he meets the crew, exchanging smiles and awkward handshakes.

He feels them as he bends down to clean the main deck with just a rug, a bucket and a piece of soap to keep him company.
He feels them when Komori Motoya teaches him how to knot

("Is he always so grumpy?"

"Yeah, that's the expression he was born with")
Sakusa Kiyoomi keeps looking at him.

With those eyes that have the same color of the oceans' abyss.

So Atsumu makes sure to put on a good show.
He smirks as he points the knife he is now proud to call his at the base of Sakusa's throat.

They had been at this for a few weeks now.

"What did I tell you five minutes ago?"

"Not to leave my left side open" Sakusa says.
He's looking directly at him. Atsumu wouldn't have it any other way.

"And what didja just do?"

"I left my left side open" Atsumu lowers his gaze towards Sakusa's gritted teeth, letting it linger on his lips.

Letting Sakusa know he's looking back.

"Let's try again, Omi-kun"
They practice fighting in the captain's cabin, away from the rest of the crew. Atsumu understands Sakusa's worries: he doesn't want to let his men see he is weak. He wants to become stronger for them. He wants to be able to protect them.
Atsumu often finds himself thinking that, in his own way, Sakusa Kiyoomi is a prince too.

He has the heart of a prince, the heart Atsumu could never have.

And this ship, this is his kingdom, his domain. Sakusa understands his land's needs, he understands his people's needs.
Those are all things Atsumu is incapable of doing.

Atsumu Miya has been raised to wear a crown, he knows everything about it: its importance, its rights, its power. But he is also well aware of its weight.

And Atsumu Miya has always been selfish in his own selfless way.
He isn't made to sit on a throne.

He wants to run until his legs can't carry the heaviness of his goosebumps. He wants to scream until his lungs are emptied and ready to welcome cleaner oxygen, a taste of salty water and unknown. He wants to be free. His useless, selfish desire.
But there are things that anchor him to the life he so bad wants to leave behind.

Atsumu thinks about his brother, about Oikawa, about Aran, who taught him how to fight, and Kita, who was patient enough to teach him etiquette.
He is going home. No matter how much he wants it, he can't stay lost at sea forever.

It is common knowledge, after all, that all sirens dwell in the oceans' waters.

For once, Atsumu can't let himself get carried away.

Not in the light of day.
The night sky is something else entirely.

A week ago he found a perfect spot.

He plops down on that big pile of net and rope, in a position that allows his field of view not to be obstructed by the sails, in a place where one where no one would disturb him.
But Sakusa has been looking for a while now. So it's no surprise when Atsumu hears those footsteps he has learnt to recognize get closer.

Sakusa doesn't speak, so Atusmu is the one who breaks the silence.
"Ya gonna say something or you plan to keep staring at me all night?"

Sakusa opens his mouth as if to answer, then he closes it.

"Alright Omi-kun, keep yer secrets, I like it when your eyes are on me anyway"

Sakusa lies down beside him. Their bodies don't touch.
That's all Atsumu registers before Sakusa finally speaks.

"They like you"

"Who doesn't?" Atsumu answers in cheery tone.

He watches Sakusa roll his eyes.
"I still don't trust you" Sakusa's voice is deep and grave, as if he is making a vow.

Atsumu directs his eyes towards the expanse of unknown above them "I've never asked ya to"

"And still I put my life inside your hands every day" it comes out as a whisper.
"Well, if it helps ya sleep at night, just know I have no intention to kill y-

"How many times, Oikawa, how many times could you have slit my throat?"

Sometimes he forgets how wrong Oikawa's name feels on Sakusa's lips...

"A lot"

"Am I weak?"
"Omi-kun"

"Yes?"

"You're getting better, you're training. Don't get all dramatic on me like that"

Contrary to all expectations, Sakusa lets out a sound that, for lack of a better word, Atsumu will consider a laugh.

For some reason, it makes him smile.
"I want to teach you something too" Sakusa says suddenly.

"Ya don't need to"

"I want to"

"Okay then, enlighten me"

"What do you know about stars?"

Atsumu breathes in.

"Not a lot actually. I know they make people sad sometimes"

"That's true. But that's not what I meant"
"Teach me about your stars, Kiyoomi"

On that night, Sakusa Kiyoomi reveals some of the mysteries of the sky, he murmurs them in the reverential silence of the dark as if they were secrets, as if he doesn't want the firmament to know he is breaking his vow.
And if the space separating their skins keeps diminishing along the way from one constellation to another, that's a secret too.

They trust the stars to keep it.
