Why Dr.Dre is a music icon in Hip-hop and a story of his music career ( a thread
Andre Romelle Young or as most people know him by Dr.Dre is one of the most pivotal and influential artists in music history. Andre was born on the 18th February 1965 in Compton, California
To his Mother Verna Young and Theodore Young but was mostly raised by his mother
At a young age it become apparent that Andre had a thing for music and although he grew up on his mothers 'oldies' eg Marvin Gaye, Funkadelic, sly stone and more his real love was for hip-hop or rap music. He would listen to the singles he could afford and analyse them
At this stage Andre would of been 16 years old or so and it was said he absolutely analyze the music, every single note, how the bassline sounded etc. Before he decided to go down the dj path that would kickstart his career.
Though after his small stint as a dancer he wanted to remake himself and become a DJ and this is where his music career really started even if he didnt know it himself. He along with his friends started the group called The Freak Patrol.
Later on in his life around 1982-1986
Andre started hanging out Lonzo Williams and his group World class Wreckin' Cru. He actually started to dj for the group when one day someone didnt turn up so he took the place and later added full time. This was where Dre met DJ yella
This is where Andre actually came up with the Dr.Dre alias and it was actually based on a basketball player called Julius Erving's moniker Dr. Andre (thus becoming Dr.Dre )and he would wear a doctors coat when spinning. As well as being the DJ for World class he and dj yella 1/2
2/2 worked together and started selling mixtapes that they had made together. As well as this World class also start sellint records but the group is electeonic music and andre really wants to get into Hip-hop and not just be the clubs dj and make electronic musc records
This would all change when Andre met O'Shea Jackson(known as Ice cube) and after dre had some trouble with the law and going to jail a few times he turns to Eric Wright who bails out but only if he makes music for a label that Eric Wright (later known as Easy-E)
Dre agrees though at first it was only going to be a dre, 2 other new york rappers and Ice Cube but this doesnt go to plan and dre urges Eric Wright to instead rap and they ended up making the hit boyz in the hood. Its then decided that they should make a 'supergroup' called NWA
Made up of Dre, DJ yella, ice cube , Arabian prince, Easy-E,MC ren and DOC. They later go on to make the two smash hit singles straight outta Compton and fuck the police gaining them lots of traction and then when their album straight outta Compton released they had become stars
With dre behind production with what would become a legendary and innovating rap group that would change Hip-hop and be very influential.
But after NWA's album the group become falling apart members began leaving. First with arabian prince, then Ice cube and then Dre.
When Dre left to focus on production and his solo career it only did wonders for him. This would of been around 1991 where he left and would start working on the iconic west coast gangsta rap album the chronic. This was where he began working with Snoop Dogg and they had
Made an big single for the album called Nuthin' but a G thang which is one of the most known songs from the album. Now in 1992 the album is released under the label Death Row Records.
Now in 1993 we've seen dre go from being a mere DJ for his local club to become part of a gangsta rao group in NWA and now had started his solo career and in 1993 this is where he would again work production wise on other Artists albums and he helped Snoop along with (1/2)
(2/2) Daz dillinger om Snoop Doggs debut album called Doggystyle. This album was a massive success and is considered a must hear album among Hip-hop fans and is still to this day one of the highest selling albums ( in first week sales).
His next big work was when Death Row Records bailed 2Pac out of prison in 1995 and the label began working on 2pacs double album called All eyez on me. Here dr.dre works alongside 2pac with production and they made the smash hit California love and the album ended up
Releasing in 1996 and was again a big success for the label and 2pac himself.
As well as this in 1996 dre wants to leave Death Row Records and start a new Record label called Aftermath.
In 1997-1998 Dre does a few thints here but nothing to the success as what iv stated above and it really took off again when Dre sighed world renowned Rapper Eminem after hearing a copy of the Slim Shady EP as Jimmy iovine had been given one.
In 1999 under the Aftermath label Eminem released his studio alb(debut under a major label)Called The Slim Shady LP and Dr.dre worked heavy alongside Eminem making the album with the hits like My name is as well as the fact Dre had a feature on the album called Guilty Conscience
In the same year Dr.dre worked on whats considered a classic rap album nowadays in 2001 or sometimes known as the chronic 2. This album is nearly all produced by Dr.dre with features from snoop, xzibit, Eminem , Nate dogg and more.
Its highly renowned and features one of the most iconic songs and beat in still dre as well as the next episode being iconic as well.
From 2000-2002 Dre worked alongside Eminem for his next two albums but didnt have as many production credits as he did on SSLP. In 2002-2003 is where Dre worked heavy and helped make 50 cent massive by signing him to his label aftermath records
At first Dre was actually hesitant to sign 50 because of his past but eminem convinced Dre that he was worth it and it turned 50 cent into a rap superstar with Dr.dre producing his massive hit song called in Da club. Although Dr.dre didn't produce loads on Get rich or die trying
He did work alongside 50 on it and helped mix it and make it as great as it could possibly be and its now considered a 2000s classic rap album because of Dres and Ems work alongside. Hell Dr.dre produced easily the biggest hit on the album with In da club
