I've seen a few in the fandom be worried about Brettsey being endgame because they don't trust Derek and also cause new people are coming. I get it. I don't blame you for not trusting Derek. But I wanted to start a thread to reassure everyone why this is happening. Let's do this
Let's start at the beginning...

The first real hint we got that these two were going to become romantic was in 7x19, and what did we get? Immediate foreshadowing. We all know Matt has wanted to become a father since s1! He starts drooling over how Sylvie is with the little boy😏
In the very next episode, 7x20, we get Sylvie inviting Matt over to her place for a blind date with her friend Olivia. But instead of showing Matt connecting with Olivia, we see how Matt knows Sylvie better than anyone else does in a game of Charades....
More foreshadowing. Olivia spilling the truth đŸ”...

P.S. She's my spirit animal 😁
Wanted to point out just as a side note that the show wouldn't even play with the idea of Brettsey in the first place, given both Matt and Sylvie's long history with G, if they were not endgame.
Sylvie's engagement to Kyle proved something: Fowlerton isn't home anymore. Chicago and 51 are.

Matt said something similar to G when they broke up.

This may seem like an insignificant detail, but it isn't. It's very important. A couple HAS to be on the same page to work.
In 8x07 we get even more foreshadowing, with Matt saying to Sylvie about her love life:

"My money is on you finding exactly what you want because that's what you deserve."

It was in that moment that I knew they were gonna be endgame.
Communication is vital for a relationship to work. A relationship falls apart without it. They talk. REALLY talk. Both know they can go to other for help and encouragement without criticism, judgement, or being told that their crazy. This is what they BOTH need after their pasts.
8x13 we get some more foreshadowing with Brettsey helping Mr. Larson, who was married to his wife for over 40 years. Coincidence? No way.

Also, what they end up doing for him gets me every time. Apart they are both a force for good. Together they are unstoppable.
When her birthmom contacts her, she gives the letter to Matt to throw away, showing how much she trusts and respects him.

Later on when she showed up at his place to get it back, she knew he would still have it.

Sylvie knows Matt.
Matt knows Sylvie.
8x16 we get even more foreshadowing with Sylvie touching Julie's stomach while Matt grins like the Cheshire cat. Any time Matt sees how Sylvie reacts to babies, the man just can't help it.
Matt's words to Sylvie in 8x19:

"Whatever you decide, I'm here" are also very significant. His unwavering support of Sylvie, even if she decides to take care of her baby sister, is HUGE.

Plus, Matt, we get it, you really want to be a dad! Geez 😂
but it is still very sweet 😭
Oh, don't mind CF, their just foreshadowing a Brettsey wedding along with the other power couple on the show, Stellaride.

"A safe house on your best and worst days, a place of love and warmth and a best friend to call home."
Brettsey brings out a side of each other that no one else does and they are happiest when they are together.

They are also so comfortable around each other they can just BE themselves, something neither one has been able to do in a relationship before. And they have fun...
Also, as of 9x01, Brettsey now has their very own theme music, just like Stellaride does, that plays during romantic moments they share together.

And even though Sylvie gave him plenty of chances to leave, Matt was not budging. He's not going anywhere.
Matthew Casey, jumped out of a moving truck without any of his gear, just to make sure Sylvie was ok.

That is the very definition of being madly in love with someone...
And Sylvie is madly in love with Matt.

But her line "It's always been you" is often misinterpreted. Sylvie isn't saying she has had feelings for Matt all along. Sylvie did not want a married man.

Every little girl grows up dreaming about "the one". Matt is that for Sylvie.
Matt turns into a nervous, teenage-like dork in front of Sylvie, which is another side of him we have not seen before...and need more of!

How can you not love dorky Matt? He literally STANDS UP when Sylvie enters and leaves!
And when they look at each other, everything else fades away and it is just the two of them.
Their first kiss felt different than the kisses they have shared with other people.

This one was soft and slow, like they wanted to savor it as long as possible, but also really hot at the same time đŸ„”đŸ”„
Everything you need to know about how Matt feels about Sylvie is in this look.

He was also the one that kept initiating more kisses, pretty much invited himself into her apartment and shut the door, and kept accelerating things between them. He thinks he doesn't know...he knows
"I've wanted this for a really long time."
"Me too."

That requires no explanation
Every great couple in TV/Movies has to go through some angst before they can get together. It's pretty much the law of entertainment romance.

But the fact that they are dealing with what was such a big part of Matt's life now, is even more proof we are in for something BIG.
And when Matt thinks he might die, he always knows exactly how to find Sylvie just so he can look at her one last time.

And Sylvie is already looking right back at him.
The wifey checking on the husband....
Probably the biggest clue we have that Brettsey will happen is when Sylvie says "Matt, what happened between us, it can't happen again. Ever."

When one person in the ship says this, it means that it will, in fact, happen again.
Both of them had tears in their eyes. You can actually see their hearts breaking thinking they can never be together.

This is not how a couple reacts when the show is just 'letting go and moving on'. These two are in love. Matt Casey is gonna fight for his girl.
But before he can do that, Matt has a lot he still needs to figure out. For one, he needs to finally get what's really bothering Sylvie because he just doesn't get it.

But he also needs to learn to express his feelings better. He should have said all of this to SYLVIE đŸ€ŠđŸŒâ€â™€ïž
You don't have a couple stare at each other like this after saying it can't happen if they are done.

Matt's "Guess I'm pretty good at that" breaks my heart, but it also tells me that they won't really be moving on. This isn't the end, it's only the beginning!
So, instead of paying so much attention to Derek, focus on the direction the show has been heading the last few seasons. Every moment between them has meant something. It has all been leading to these two finally getting their happy ending.

It isn't a matter of 'if', but WHEN!
