So hey, that Dutch political thing I was talking about, let's drop some thoughts on that
The Dutch government resigned and I've finally found a good english source that I think covers it pretty well: https://app.spectator.co.uk/2021/01/15/the-scandal-that-collapsed-the-dutch-government/content.html
Was gonna write it out myself, but this works better

Important take-aways from this:
- The financial ruin caused was not caused by mistake, but by design
- The fact that Rutte and his party still consider themselves trustworthy is laughably insulting... yet unfortunately also true as they're leading in the polls

- It cannot be understated just how disproportionally this harmed people with migration backgrounds. Prime example of systemic racism.
- The first wave of compensation has yet to his the parents' pockets, yet the tax agency already laid claim to part of it

- This has been going on for years (start of the decade), is continuing to happen and is not exclusive to the childcare benefits. These design problems are evident in other systems too.
- The party that designed it despite criticisms somehow believe they can be the ones to fix it

- A leading cause of the issues and the fact that it took so long to uncover is the culture in our government: share only the things you deem essential. There were past investigations where important information was kept from the investigators, the house and even law officials
So that's our current political state (or part of it at least, I could be here all day naming issues) and that's why I'm hurting. None of it directly effects me, but seeing the pain it causes hurts.
Yet the man and party responsible are very likely to get re-elected...
Fuck!

Oh right almost forgot, don't forget the media's role in this. You'll have to translate this thread, but yeah important aspect. https://twitter.com/PieterOmtzigt/status/1274709575485345793?s=19
To end the thread on a good note, here's a tweet full of unsung heroes who fought hard to shed light on the injustice, including Pieter himself. Very thankful we still have people willing to fight as hard as they all did, though they shouldn't have to https://twitter.com/PieterOmtzigt/status/1350163198071205888?s=19
