Starting 2021 by watching one of the few John Hughes-penned movies I haven’t seen, SOME KIND OF WONDERFUL.
Had to watch it in 2 days because my kid got up, but that was great. Everyone was so good. Any movie that has Elias Koteas coming in to save the day gets upped a full letter grade.
Eric Stoltz was so charming and likable. Masterson was awesome. @LeaKThompson was the best. Movie felt more grounded than other Hughes movies, if that makes sense. Anyway, sad it took me so long to see it, but appreciated that I got to watch a new Hughes movie in 2020.
Onto STREETS OF FIRE, a movie I haven’t seen since I was 11, but remember loving.
How is this movie not more famous. Every line and every delivery of said line is flawless
Finished it! That was fun. Not at all what I remembered. Oddly it had a DICK TRACY vibe.
Onto one I’ve seen bits and pieces of on cable, own 3 different versions of the soundtrack, and am a big fan of the aesthetic but have never seen the full movie.
This movie is wacky
Alright, finished FLASH GORDON. After knowing every beat of the score for years, was cool to finally hear it in the context of the movie. Sam Jones gave a wonderful, wide-eyed, heartfelt performance. The look of the movie is A+. Want to watch again, loved it a lot.
It's a very strange, wonderful movie. On one hand, it's childlike. On the other, every character's major decisions are made because they want to have sex. I remember as a kid being freaked out after seeing that one guy get impaled and his eyes and tongue bug out of his head.
Onto another movie I haven’t seen but should have.
This movie is really really great. I’ve never seen a movie like this. Considering what it’s about, the tone is so gentle and matter-of-fact. It’s the most grounded time travel movie. And fantastic lead performances.
Okay, onto the next movie I haven’t seen that I should. I know, I know.
This is great. Hoffman is amazing, but Cruise is really working.
Had to stop an hour in because my kid got up, but man, RAIN MAN is fantastic. Why didn't anyone tell me that movies that are famous for being great are great?
Onto one starring one of my heroes and written by one of my heroes and starring one of my favorite actors of all time. No idea why I haven’t seen this yet.
Has some great stuff. Martin, Moranis and Cusack are incredible as always. Excellent appearance by William Hickey. There is a dance montage that goes on for 2 days.

Martin was originally going to play the FBI agent and Schwarzenegger was gonna be the mobster? Nuts.
Moving onto a newer one I haven’t seen that I really want to.
Pete Davidson is fantastic in this, wow. Bill Burr is the greatest.
Couldn't finish it, kid got up. Will resume tomorrow. Might take three days, as this movie is very very long. Really enjoying it though.
Finished this tonight. Really good. Fantastic performances. Laughed out loud a few times, but it was more sweet than anything. It’s 2 hours 20 minutes but kind of enjoyed just wandering around this guy’s life.
Hey look at that, I watched one of my new favorite movies last night. Holy, this was good. Best cast ever?
Okay, next up: one of the few Tom Hanks movies I haven’t seen.
This movie had some 80s racism and misogyny, but that aside (and its a big one), there are some big laughs. The cast was so damn good. Hanks made you root for a potentially unlikable character. Great performance by the under appreciated Gedde Wantanabe.
Next up: It’s a big one.
Continuing to watch movies that I haven’t seen yet that I should.
Kid keeps waking up early in the morning so it's taking me a week to finish, but I love it so much. And I wasn't paying attention to the cast, so people keep coming and surprising me. Catherine O'Hara! Teri Garr! Cheech AND Chong. And Griffin Dunne is incredible in this.
Continuing to watch movies that I should have seen by now.
This was Levinson’s writing and directing debut? Wow.
That was great. These guys are kinda jerks.
Continuing my 2021 marathon of movies I haven’t seen yet but should
This is the most 80s movie ever made
Watching a big one tonight.
That was great. Movies, now more than ever
Continuing to watch movies I should have seen by now.
This was just wonderful. What great writing and acting. Giamatti gave such a lived in, textured, beautiful performance.
Continuing to watch movies that I should have seen by now. Doing this one for Johnny Lawrence.
This one...isn’t my favorite.
Moving on. Another first time watch.
This was really entertaining.

A lot less about dancing than I thought.

Had no idea how much stuff came from it: songs, fashion, so many scenes parodied in other 80s movies.

Beals was fantastic.
Another first time watch. This one is incredible. Having to watch it in pieces because I have a seven year old who for some reason has no interest in a 2.5 hour western but it's really spectacular. Wish I could watch it on the big screen.
Finished it! That was great. One of the best looking westerns I’ve ever seen. And not everything needs a sequel but I would love for those 4 to meet up again.
Another first time watch
COCKTAIL is really silly but very watchable so far. Where is Shue, I was promised Shue.
Tom Cruise is doing all this crazy bottle flipping and funtime dancing, but don't people just want their drink?
Well that was silly. Points for Shue.
Onto the next first-time watch.
This movie is so great, and should have swept all major hollywood hat awards
Hackman is crazy good. One of the best performances Ive ever seen.
“I’m gonna get him!”

Title Card: Popeye Doyle never got him.

Credits
I saw this movie ONCE, years ago, and Gibson's voice was dubbed. So here we go.

I've never seen the next two (though I remember seeing pieces of ROAD WARRIOR when I was younger, and loving it while also being freaked out by it.

I've seen FURY ROAD a dozen times.
This movie is wild. Great movies are great, that should be said more.
MAD MAX was not what I remembered. Have not seen 2 or 3. Looking forward to watching.
Onto the next one. Have never seen it, aside from a scene with, I want to say a boomerang and a head, that made an impact when I was younger and walked in on my dad watching it.
Well, that was nuts. Loved it. Better than the first one, which was also great.
Onto another first time watch. This one features Tina Turner, who I love far too much. Mel Gibson better be nice to her.
10 minutes in, there are already jokes in this one.
A bunch of kids just found Max and this movie took a turn.
This movie became something else entirely. It feels like Max wandered into a Spielberg movie.
Even the score feels different. Like every track could be called “Havin’ Fun”
And now I gotta finish the MAD MAX watch with FURY ROAD. I’ve seen it so many times, and I love it more each time.
MAD MAX rankings, though all are great.

MAD MAX: FURY ROAD

MAD MAX 2: THE ROAD WARRIOR

MAD MAX

MAD MAX BEYOND THUNDERDOME
Should I follow up the MAD MAX-a-thon with WATERWORLD? I've seen it a bunch, but until I watched the MAX movies I had no idea how much WATERWORLD was inspired by it.
FURY ROAD is a miracle. There’s nothing like it.
Alright into this, kinda gotta after the MAD MAX-a-thon. Haven’t seen it in so long. Love the stunt show at @UniStudios
We all accept that WATERWORLD is great, right? That's like, accepted at this point?
Let's have a WATERWORLD: FURY SEA sequel please.
Onto SO I MARRIED AN AX MURDERER which I haven’t seen for about a decade but still know every word of.
Charlie’s Dad and Mom and Head should have had at least 3 spin-off movies
Continuing to watch movies I’ve never seen but should have. This is a big one.
This is great. The Baseball Furies are my favorites so far. The Orphans are the funniest, with their dirty brown t-shirts.
Continuing to watch movies I haven't seen before but should have. Halfway through this, it's incredible.
This movie was so great, so tense. Two of the best lead performances in a movie ever.
