I like the idea of time traveling quirks - especially when involving Katsuki going back to the past;

He goes back to his MS days and sees Deku. Tiny, scrawny, scaredy-cat Deku.

And on his present, that is not his Deku.

They might not even be together at that point, but Katsuki had taken his head of his ass a long time ago and he sees Izuku.

Sees how caring, hardworking, brave, stupidly selfless he is. Appreciate his company, is grateful for his ‘hero analysis’ even though he doesn’t say it.

And now, seeing Deku 10 years younger is too much for him.

He sees the way Deku looks at him in awe and curiosity but also, cannot miss the fear in his eyes, in his stance.

The fear that Katsuki might lash out at any moment.

So he doesn’t, he bends one knee to the ground and talks to him, calmly - still brash and full mouthed but calmer than Deku ever saw his 13 year old counterpart be.

He explains the situation and asks him to stay close (as he manifest in front of Deku there’s probably something there).

And Izuku gulps, but nods and steadily starts opening up.

And honestly what was Katsuki expecting? Deku starts firing question after question and gets comfortable enough to touch his gauntlets and mumble all sorts of theories

Katsuki wants to tell him to shut the hell up, but he won’t.

Because this Deku only met a Katsuki that looks down on him, that doesn’t see the good in him, that doesn’t see him like a hero.

He indulges him instead, as much as he can without saying too much.

Especially not saying Deku is a hero himself - still a big nope.

Before he can say much though Deku gets quiet and with a thoughtful look on his face.

“Bakugou-san, are we friends in the future?”

And Katsuki just can’t take it, he envelopes the boy in a hug and let’s him cry his heart out on his chest.

He doesn’t say yes, but Deku knows.

Short after that he goes back to his time unexpectedly.

“Finally Kacchan! I was about to go back and bring you myself!”

“What happened nerd?”

“We found the civilian that accidentally set his quirk on you but he said he couldn’t do much just wait it out... but help me god, another hour with thirteen year old you and I would have committed a crime”

Katsuki is stunned for a moment, but then he laughs out loud, like he only does around Izuku.

He laughs and laughs and when he finally stops, he looks at Izuku in the eyes and he knows that he cannot change the brat he was, but he can be a better ’Kacchan’ now.

Izuku is smiling at him, sweet and inviting as he always is, so Katsuki kisses him.

And that was why he couldn't answer before because they were friends yes, but they were not just that. Never were.
