* QUIDDITCH *

¿What's it? ¿How do you play it?

A thread absolutely no one asked for, but made it anyways.
I'll explain everything as good as I can, but please be nice I've only been playing for a year so I'm still kinda a rookie. If you have any doubts about anything I talk about here, feel free to dm me, I'll answer your questions ;)
oh and i'm not a native English speaker so I might make some mistakes, sorryyyy
Okay, now let's start with a bit of history. Quidditch is obviously a sport inspired by the famous sport played in the Harry Potter universe. Nowadays quidditch is, though, trying to become a more serious sport.
The sport was created in 2005, by two University students in the USA. By 2007 the sport had grown to a point where they were able to celebrate the first quidditch world cup.
Nowadays quidditch is an official sport in some american universities and it's also played in different countries all around the world. The International Quidditch Association is the one in charge of regulating the sport.
* HOW TO PLAY *

Okay, now let's go with the difficult but also fun part of quidditch: playing. I'm not going to lie, it can be a bit confusing at the beginning but that's why someone (me) has to explain to you the basic rules and the mechanics.
We are talking about a mixed gender contact sport that has lots of similarities with other sports, if we watch a quidditch match, we'll easily identify characteristics of rugby, handball, basketball, dodgeball, etc.
The goal of the game is to score. At the end of a match, the team with more points, wins. Quidditch is played in a hockey rink-sized rectangular pitch with 3 hoops at each side of the pitch (each hoop has a different height).
During a match, there's a maximum of 7 players in the field (21 total on roster). Both teams can substitute players freely at any time.
When the match starts, it is played with 4 balls. A fifth one is added later.
Besides a player who starts off-pitch, the six players are required to abide by the gender rule, which states that a team may have a maximum of 4 players who identify as the same gender (allowing also an open community for those who don't identify with the gender binary)
All players must be mounted in a "broom". At the beginning, they were brooms that looked like the ones in the movies, now they have been replaced by small PVC pipes.
Brooms are a "handicap" such as one-handed dribbling on basketball.

Then // Now
* THE BALLS*

* Quaffle

A slightly deflated volleyball carried by the "chasers" and "keepers". Players pass the ball and throw it through the hoops (from either side), gaining ten points per score.

There is one on the pitch.
* Bludgers

A slightly deflated dodgeball manipulated by the "beaters" used to knockout the rival team players.

There are 3 on the pitch, but each team can posses a maximum of two.
When a player is knocked out, they must dismount their broon, drop any ball they might be carrying, and touch their team's hoops before resuming the play.
* Snitch

A tennis ball inside a yellow long pouch attached to the back of a snitch runner (an impartial refree). Seekers try to catch it.

The snitch isn't on pitch until the 17th minute.
When the snitch is caught, the Seeker that got it earns 30 points for their team.
If the team who caught the snitch has more points, the match ends and they win. If the team is losing, the match ends when a team gets to the winning team points + 30.

(this is a new rule)
* PLAYERS *

All the players wear a headband indicating what is their position. There's 6 players at the beginning of a match, a seventh joins later.
* Chaser - White

3 on pitch.
They pass the Quaffle to score points.
* Keeper - Green

1 on pitch.

They play really similar to chasers, but inside their area they can't be knocked off. They are usually in charge of directing their team inside the pitch
* Beater - Black

2 on pitch.
They play with the bludgers. Their main goal is to knock off the other team players to make it easier for their chasers to score.
The beaters dynamic is really similar to a dodgeball match.
Seeker - Yellow

1 on pitch.
Joins the game in the 18th minute, a minute later than the snitch. The only goal of the Seeker is to catch the snitch before the rival Seeker does.
And that's all :) If you wanna know more or wanna know if there's any team near where you live, you can talk to me and I'll try to help you.
I forgot to add that teams are made by players all ages (above 16). But there's also Kidditch (the kid's version for quidditch)
