Derby are bottom of the Championship with 1 win in 13 games.

Their fans have suffered quite a bit over the past few years...

Let's take a look back at the rollercoaster that is Derby County Football Club, starting off with Bobby Zamora.

[THREAD]
So as you probably know, Derby were beaten in the 2014 Playoff final by a 91st minute goal by Bobby Zamora.

It was QPR's only shot on target.
Derby go into the new season full of optimism that they can build upon last seasons success.

They spend £3 million on George Thorne.

Five days later he's ruled out for nine months with a knee injury.
They also brought in Spanish defender Raul Albentosa.

It was a highly anticipated signing from Eibar.

He played 8 games before disappearing off the face of the earth.

He also apparently had back problems because he left his orthotic insoles in Spain.
Their transfer business wasn't all bad that season!

They brought in the likes of Jesse Lingard, Jack Butland, Jordan Ibe, Tom Ince, Stephen Warnock, Darren Bent and...

Erm... Leon Best.

But surely with some of those players, promotion is guranteed that season right?
After spending most of the season in the top two...

Derby end up needing a point on the last day to stay in the playoffs.

They lose 3-0 to Reading and Steve McClaren is sacked.
He's replaced by Carlo Ancelotti's assistant Paul Clement.

He's well backed by the club, who spend £21 million in the 2015 summer transfer window.

That includes £4 million on Jacob Butterfield whose main highlight was this:
On Boxing Day, Derby are top of the Championship and unbeaten in seven games.

7 games later Paul Clement is sacked.

Derby chairman, Mel Morris, says the team weren't playing "the Derby way".
Also worth mentioning in January they spent £4 million to sign striker Nick Blackman from Reading and winger Abdoul Camara from Angers

Blackman played 29 games and scored 1 goal... he nows plays in Israel.

Camara’s retired at the age of 28.
Derby appoint academy director Darren Wassall as manager until the end of the season.

His only previous managerial experience was a 4-4 draw with Ipswich in 2013.
In March 2016, Derby are winning 3-0 away at Rotherham.

Wassall changes the formation and brings on two attackers.

Rotherham score 3 goals in the last 5 minutes.

Leon Best got two of them.
Derby reach the playoffs but are beaten by Hull after losing 3-0 in the first leg.

Wassall isn't given the job.
New season, new manager.

Nigel Pearson's the new man in charge for the 2016-17 season.

It's his first job since saving Leicester from relegation, prior to their title-winning season.

The goal? Promotion.
Derby win 3 of their first 14 games.

Pearson falls out with Mel Morris after reports he was spying on training sessions using a drone.

He's suspended pending an investigation into his behaviour before eventually being sacked.
Also worth mentioning Pearson signed Ikechi Anya for £4 million.

He played 33 games in four years.

He was earning £1.5 million a year.
Steve McClaren is back again as manager!

It's his fourth spell at the club.

He lasts six months.
"Your Mum's new boyfriend" Gary Rowett is appointed the new manager in March 2017.

Fans are fairly excited and quite like him as he used to play for the club.
Club chief executive (and Stone Cold Steve Austin impersonator) Sam Rush is sacked.

This man's an interesting character...

He reportedly paid Paul Ince's wife £700,000 for "scouting services".
He also allegedly paid a company £1 million for a scouting report of France.

Amongst the players recommended were Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele.

They might be onto something you know...
In March 2018, Derby's game with Cardiff was postponed because of snow.

The Rams only had 10 players in training that week.

Below is a tweet from Cardiff's Greg Halford.

The two sides would meet a month later and Derby won 3-1.
Derby would go onto lose in the Playoffs again (the third time in five seasons for those of you keeping score at home).

Gary Rowett leaves to go to Stoke.

It doesn't go down very well with the Derby fans.

Especially after he said this just six months before...
Things are starting to go really weird...

Frank Lampard is appointed manager in May 2018.

He brings in the likes of Mason Mount, Fikayo Tomori and Harry Wilson.
Midfielder Bradley Johnson is charged with biting Stoke's Joe Allen.

He's banned for four matches.
In January 2019, Derby accuse Leeds of sending a spy to watch their training sessions.

Marcelo Bielsa admits to it.

When the two sides meet, Leeds win 2-0.
Chelsea and England legend Ashley Cole joins.

Because why not?
Derby reach the Playoffs and face their old rivals Leeds who only just missed out on automatic promotion.

The Rams lose the first leg 1-0.

No side has ever won in the Playoffs after losing the first leg at home.

They win the second leg 4-2.
Derby go onto to lose in the final to Villa.

Four Playoffs lost in six seasons.

Lampard leaves to go to Chelsea.
Former Barcelona midfielder Phillip Cocu is the new manager in July 2019.

This is the craziest season of all...

To summarise how it went, here’s a before and after of Mr Cocu:
Derby announce the signing of Wayne Rooney.

It's reported the sponsor 32Red are paying his wages.

This is denied by the club.
Middlesbrough try to sue the EFL, claiming they weren't punishing Derby for breaking financial fairplay rules.

It's after the club sold their stadium to... the chairman Mel Morris.

Derby would later be charged by the EFL but the case was dismissed.
Tom Lawrence and Mason Bennett are charged with drink-driving after a crash.

It turns out that Richard Keogh was in one of the cars and suffers an injury that keeps him out for a year.

They're found guilty and...
The club sack Richard Keogh.
New £10 million signing Krystian Bielik is injured in a reserve game in January 2020.

He misses the rest of the season and is still working his way back into the team now.
Mason Bennett is forced to apologise after filming a video of Pride Park and saying "fucking burn".

He never plays for Derby again.
Defender Andre Wisdom is stabbed in the head and buttocks during a mugging in Liverpool.

He made a full recovery but missed the rest of the season.
A businessman called Henry Gabay lends the chairman Mel Morris £81 million.

He was arrested months later for being involved in a tax scandal.
On the pitch, Derby have a fairly uneventful season and finish 10th.

Although that seems quite good to how things are going now...
13 games into this season and Derby have:

- Picked up the joint-second lowest number of points ever in a Championship season

- Scored one goal from open play

- Are bottom of the league, below the likes of Sheffield Wednesday who had a points deductions
Phillip Cocu's sacked and in comes a coaching team, including Wayne Rooney.

Oh, and Steve McClaren's back for his 5th spell at the club (as technical director).
Derby are now set to be taken over by a Middle-Eastern billionaire which could very well signal the end of this terrific era.

Although they might get relegated in the ultimate blaze of glory.
Fast forward six months later... it didn’t happen.

Despite months of being told the deal is close to being done, it doesn’t happen and Derby move onto other parties.
In December, Derby fail to pay players wages.

This was as a result of the never-ending takeover.
On the pitch, things have taken a turn for the worst...

In March and April, Derby’s results look like this:

Played - 13

Won - 1

Lost - 10

It leaves them on the edge of the relegation zone.
Derby announce their close to agreeing a deal with Spanish businessman Erik Alonso.

👉 Just 29-years-old

👉 Describes himself as a boxing world champion

👉 Has denied accusations he’s part of a far right movement in Spain

👉 Gets cash from backers in Indonesia

Fair.
While the club wait for that deal to go through, Mel Morris promises to pay the players their wages for April.

However, he says he’s reluctant to do so in future months.
Reports emerge that Alonso’s takeover is in serious doubt.

It’s claimed he’s tried to refinance Pride Park in bid to fund the deal.
