Companies who have done nothing wrong should welcome investigative reporting that keeps them accountable, not try to pre empt it like this https://twitter.com/coinbase/status/1331806060080996352
They are trying to cause readers to distrust the story, which feels to me as an attack on journalism in general, a pattern I’ve seen that the talking heads in tech and others have taken too far imo
Sure reporting at places like the NYT shouldn’t be taken at face value but there should be some semblance of trust in the institutional processes that exist in media organizations to verify stories
In All About the Story, @lendownie describes some these processes at the Washington Post and makes a pretty good argument for the importance of accountability/investigative journalism in holding people in power accountable
An important takeaway for me from the book was that we should want and cheer for people doing the work of describing and sharing decisions made by people with power with as much accuracy and detail as can be provided/collected/verified
