The people pushing for this on a religious basis deserve as much derision as the conservative justices who voted for it. Early Christians did not have physical churches to gather in and they managed just fine. https://twitter.com/Reuters/status/1331950835518087172
There is no prerequisite for practicing Christianity that demands that you gather in a building with a couple hundred other people. In fact, the Bible explicitly defines the church as anywhere "where two or more are gathered in my name". Which could be your house or zoom.
This is stupid dangerous culture war bullshit. Today I'm grateful that my mom's Southern Baptist church hasn't been doing this despite their political inclinations in other areas. They have been using Facebook and zoom.
Because they care about protecting their congregation, which skews older and more vulnerable to covid. That is practicing Christianity, not showing up in a building and aerosoling all over each other.
Some culture war dopes are in this thread already gloating that they're owning the lib (me) by ... potentially killing my conservative religious relatives? Have never seen a political constituency so determined to literally kill itself off.
