[Thread] The Spaceshipper holiday gift guide: Art of & making of (books).

Here is a list of a few (35) books that I really liked this year (I read them in 2020, which doesn't necessarily mean that they were published in 2020).

We are spoiled, when it comes to space fiction. 😌
Most of these books were published by @HeroCollector_ @TitanBooks or @TASCHEN 🙏

Reminder: this holiday gift guide follows the one devoted to space video games. https://twitter.com/TheSpaceshipper/status/1331619184959217666
The Art and Making of The Expanse by Titan Books

If you love, like me, the TV series adapted from the novels of @JamesSACorey and available on Prime Video, this book is unmissable. @NorthFrontInc 's preproduction work is very well worth it.
The Art of Star Trek Discovery, by Paula M. Block and Terry J. Erdmann for Titan Books

It just went out. Another very beautiful book devoted to a TV series.
Star Trek: Designing Starships Volume 4: Discovery by @BenCSRobinson for @EaglemossLtd is a must-read. You will witness all the evolution of designs.

You can already read some pages: https://www.amazon.com/Star-Trek-Designing-Starships-Discovery/dp/1858755743
Moreover, the previous books in this collection are just as wonderful. They bring together the tremendous research work done for the booklets accompanying @StarTrekModels :
There is no "Art of" yet (?) for Picard, Lower Decks, Lost in Space, Final Space, For All Mankind...

But The Art of the Mandalorian (Season 1), by @PhilSzostak for @ABRAMSbooks will be released in a few days. I haven't read it yet, but I have no doubts about its quality.
Because Phil. He has written most of the recent Art of Star Wars books. All of high quality and absolutely unmissable (even when you did not like some films. I'm glad SW9 exists only to read its wonderful Art of).
Speaking of Star Wars, @kershed has just written for Taschen a formidable Star Wars Archives devoted to the Prequels. It's a bible. Very expensive, but worth it.

It's like this account, but way better and on paper. ;)
Paul's previous Star Wars Archives has just been released in small format (and low price). It's more convenient to read, but the layout is bound to be less pleasant. It remains a bible.

Fascinating read, even for me (you know).
Still Star Wars (sorry but it's not my fault it's the major space license), The Art of Star Wars Rebels by @danwallaceMSP for @DarkHorseComics is very good. A great way to reconnect with the late series.
The Art of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order by Dark Horse is splendid. The concept artist team did a wonderful job on this game. Unfortunately, very little is given to them in this book. I love when you let them speak and explain.
Obviously I'm screaming my love for the umpteenth time to @jwrinzler many, many (but always great) Star Wars books.
I learned things from Star Wars: Fascinating Facts by Pablo Hidalgo. It is not an "art of" but it is a good gift.
Back to Trek!

Star Trek: The Motion Picture: The Art and Visual Effects by Jeff Bond and Gene Kozicki for Titan Books is a must have. This 1979 movie deserved to have such a great book, four decades late.
I haven't been able to read it yet, but Star Trek: The Artistry of Dan Curry, by Dan Curry and Ben Robinson for Titan Books, promises to be wonderful.
It's two years old, but Star Trek: The Art of John Eaves by Joe Nazzaro is unmissable.
As someone who may have seen this series late, Star Trek: The Official Guide to the Animated Series by Aaron Harvey and Rich Schepis was a real pleasure.
And it's always a pleasure to open one of the Star Trek Shipyards by @HeroCollector_
I'm waiting for a book about the making of BSG designs (Battlestar Galactica: Designing Spaceships, april 2021), but The Ships of Battlestar Galactica from @HeroCollector_ is really cool to read. 😍
In the meantime, the good old Battlestar Galactica Vault by @paulruditis is a safe bet.
So Say We All: The Complete, Uncensored, Unauthorized Oral History of Battlestar Galactica by @markaaltman
and Edward Gross is the best BSG oral history!
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic by @alexjkane for @BossFightBooks is a must-read if you like KotOR.
James Cameron's Story of Science Fiction by Randall Frakes for @Pocket_Books is a fascinating book, with lot of interviews with great filmmakers.
William Gibson's Alien 3 & The Star Wars by J.W. Rinzler are 2 fascinating comics allowing us to discover films that we have not seen.
