Statement from Union of Presidential Candidates.

The union which brings together 14 candidates have issued a statement today after consultations with sections of the public (religious leaders, civil society, women, youth).

The union called for the dissolution of all the electoral committees both at Federal and State level.

New committees to be nominated through consultation between the parties involved in the election administration namely the FGS, FMS and Union of Presidential Candidates.

Election for the Northern Regions (Somaliland MPs) and Banadiri community to be held in the Afsione Base, where the 2017 presidential election took place.

Agents of the candidates, representatives from the international partners, Somali Police Force & AMISOM to be present.

Abdi Hashi (Speaker of the Upper House) has the legitimacy to nominate the election committee for Somaliland MPs and representatives to the Dispute Resolution Committee since he is the highest ranking elected official from Somaliland.

In order to ascertain the neutrality and apolitical status of the NISA, Fahad Yassin (Current NISA Commander) to resign, as he is the "head of the campaign" for the re-election of President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo.

The Federal Government to immediately withdraw its forces from Gedo in order to preserve the unity of the Jubbaland State, allow the state administration resume their roles and in order to hold elections for the Federal Parliament MPs in the region as per the electoral agreement.

The Union of Presidential Candidates have also threatened that if the Federal Government continues to implement a non-consensual election process, they will roll out an election roadmap to ensure a constitutional gap and power vacuum doesn't happen in #Somalia.
