Bakugo should be the MC and literally nothing can change my mind. Everyone who disagrees is dumb as rocks 😭
1. Deku’s POV as an underdog expires when he gets the strongest quirk on the planet at the very beginning. He had the willpower, now he has the strength. Its over by chapter 2
2. Deku being a protag only matters because of his relationship with All Might. However this relationship could also be explored (in an arguably more interesting way; I think so) from Bakugos POV. It wouldve added a certain mystery to the #1 hero All Might and side character Deku
3. Deku is a very standard, uninteresting character. Bakugo is arrogant, powerful from the start, and his motive for wanting to become a hero is much more opaque (and therefore interesting) than Deku’s. His POV of things would be much more compelling than Deku’s
4. ALL of Deku’s fights (a form of communication in manga) boil down to “someones in trouble and I need to save them (except gentle)”. Every single one of Bakugo’s fights and even clashes has been more nuanced and different from one another. And this is as a side character
5. Bakugo has grown as a character thruout the story, Deku has not. Change is an essential theme of MHA and Bakugo represents that far more than Deku. Deku’s morals/position/status has never once been in question; Bakugo’s has
6. Bakugo, blessed with a “strong” quirk, having to reach that #1 spot even when his rival has the strongest quirk on the planet is a far more compelling story than the guy with the strongest quirk reaching #1.....
7. Deku does not actively drive the story as a protagonist should. He is always the one reacting to something instead of carving out a narrative for himself. Bakugo very clearly would if he were the protagonist. His relationships are also way more interesting and nuanced
8. With his one quirk, Bakugo has already used it more creatively than Deku’s 3. This is the sort of thing you look for in a protag. With Deku, rest assured he’ll give us the same punches, super punches, and super duper punches we saw from All Might (maybe kicks if we’re lucky)
(Just a random opinion) Horikoshi really mishandled Deku and Bakugos relationship by putting Todoroki on the same pedestal. Deku and Todorokis moment in the sports fest couldve been given to Bakugo, and Deku and Bakugos unique rivalry could be maintained (best part of mha btw)
9. To add onto point 5: Deku, because of how stagnant and bland his character is, can exist in hero society before and after the revolution without changing. MHA has emphasized this revolution a lot, and Bakugos journey through it would be way more interesting
Ill just cap off this thread by saying MHA is a strong 9/10 for me but I have big frustrations with the way a handful of things were/are handled, so it may sound like I hate MHA when thats rly not the case
